Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This was a cozy adventure! I loved the narration and all the references to other Cosmere works. It makes me want to dive back into other cosmere things for sure. But even as a standalone, this was so sweet.
I was skeptical of this at first but ended up enjoying it in the end. The writing seemed to improve throughout and the slow burn is legit slow burn enemies to lovers.
There were a lot of goddesses covered but the information felt scattered and many of the rituals were repetitive. The writing was also repetitive and could use a good edit. I’d probably recommend a book on Celtic folklore over this to learn about these goddesses.
I looooved this at the beginning. The vibes were great and it was so cute. But then towards the middle things started getting really obvious that the characters weren’t picking up on. The end felt so rushed and also upped the intensity in a way that didn’t make sense, which made everything fall apart for me.
These are a fun romp - they combine the vibes of Guardians of the Galaxy humor with Mass Effect. The main character is Starlord with Commander Shepard vibes. But that doesn’t always land for me and there are times when I wish things were less of a joke. There are things that aren’t very fleshed out, like the villains. But overall it’s a fun time and there’s psychic cats so points for that!
The author interviews multiple people in the death industry, from funeral staff to medical science teams to crime scene cleanup crews to executioners to bereavement midwives and weaves all of these narratives and parts of the death process together. This does have visceral descriptions of these processes so not for the faint of heart.
