I love a world with own world mythology and this has soooo many gods to choose from. A found family of a godkiller, god, and knight. I loved what this set up and I’m looking forward to more.

Not as good as the Yule edition but still a great edition to the holidays series.

I didn’t love all of the characterizations of the gods on this but it’s been the closest I’ve gotten to Madeline Miller when it comes to Greek retellings.

The closest thing I can get to describing this is the boarding school aspect of Harry Potter but add dragons and own world mythology inspired by Norse, American Indigenous, and German folktales using oral tradition mixed with the historical setting, unique worldbuilding, and society of the Winter’s Promise series. Also it’s queer and polyamorous?! What’s not to love??

Part horror, part historical fantasy, this story is set in an alternate timeline where KKK members turn into actual monsters and our MC hunts them. She discovers even bigger monsters at play. I enjoyed the story and the concept, because behavior creating monster is always something I find cool. As always with Clark’s novellas, I’d love a full novel of this.

This managed to do so many unexpected things. First, this is dual POV which you can’t tell from the synopsis and definitely matters. It follows two sisters years after a war where their country fought off a colonizing nation in which they were two key players. So this feels like what would happen after so many classic YA adventure stories. It explores sister bonds, and what makes a villain. It does so many things that I wasn’t expecting so well. I’m intrigued for the second installment!

This is dense, literary fantasy that is very hard to describe. The writing style is a unique depiction of oral history and the differences between different narration styles. There were some styles of telling that I enjoyed more than others and some characters that felt more distant, but the interweaving of different stories was masterful.
