I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

As an iCarly stan, it breaks my heart that Jennette was going through so much while making the show and during Sam and Cat too. But, I am glad that her and Miranda had each other. Jennette's writing and narration was really effective in it's straightforwardness.

The reveal about her father at the end was wild? I wish we had some more of her reflection on that discovery and how she's processing it (and her brothers too).

And for "the creator", it's on sight.

Overall, would recommend this memoir even if you didn't grow up watching Jennette on TV. Content warnings: she candidly discusses her child acting career, abuse, eating disorders, and mental health.

Cheesy as hell and I still ate it up. Truly an insane premise for a story, but I love a fantasy. The romantic bits were very very cute, especially the emails/letters. I wish this was dual POV, so we could've gotten the mutual pining and denial. Also, I didn't really care about the election at the end lol. Overall, enjoyable read and very curious how the movie adaptation will go.

MAD that we didn't get more Zahra and Shaan interactions. Their high five in the car killed me.

a page turner for sure! the premise of following the family of a convicted serial killer is so interesting. how do they move on after knowing they grew up with and loved a murderer?

i was able to predict the major twist pretty early on, but there were lots of unexpected turns in between that kept it entertaining. not a huge fan of unreliable memories of the narrator through use of drugs and alcohol, but it wasn't a huge plot point for this story.

would recommend for thriller fans!

loved the island wedding setting, the baking, and some fame drama. kieran and cherry being forced to work together since they are best man and maid of honor for a wedding leads to some fun tension, but the 3rd act conflict was kind of rushed and unnecessary. i wished we developed the two main characters a bit more, especially with their relationships with their parents. i would've liked to see both characters grow a bit more individually and stand up for themselves before committing to each other.

rivals to friends to lovers? kieran holding a flame for cherry this whole time is p cute. also love some bi rep!

p.s. the illustrated cover is gorg!

I'll be thinking about this for a while. I cried happy tears for our author as she finds what she needs for her healing. It is a harrowing and long journey, but her story gives hope. Her inclusion of how her Chinese Malaysian immigrant background impacts her mental health was especially impactful for me. And I do always appreciate when people are able to find their own family when their biological family does not provide the love they need.

I read in combination of ebook and audiobook and I definitely recommend audio for Part 5.

emotional in a good way! i wouldn’t go into this thinking it’s a romance. definitely more in line with women’s fiction. we follow laurie as she rediscovers herself and what she wants. some heavy topics explored regarding childhood trauma, cancer, death that i wasn’t expecting.

glad i picked this up in audiobook because the northern accent really immersed me and i think the sarcastic humor landed better than if i just read them.
