Ughhh I wanted to keep with this, especially after that incredible opening. But omg our FMC is SO gullible it’s annoying. It’s like watching a horror movie and screaming at the characters to “No! Don’t go into the basement after hearing a scary noise and finding out this place is haunted, wtf are you doing!?!?” And I decided I just didn’t have the patience to read a whole book like that 🫠

Okay, YES, Indigenous Lara Croft/reverse Indiana Jones is what I needed!!
This book is slow in pace until the end, but I feel this book’s length better matched the story. Boulley writes stories deeply infused with a modern Native perspective, featuring main characters that are blessed with cultural knowledge and a deep love for their community. It’s wonderful. I also love the side characters in this more than Firekeeper’s Daughter! The sparks of humor reminded me of Rez Dogs (but the overall somber storyline is infuriating). I definitely feel like I learned a lot while also just enjoying a well plotted mystery book.
I hope Boulley has more stories to share, because I will definitely read them!

Oh wow. I knew this was a mystery/thriller, but for some reason I didn’t expect it to be so dark?
I’ll admit this was a bit on the slow side, with the last 20% of the book finishing strong and emphasizing the power of Native communities coming together.
I still feel kind of icky about the whole cop love interest part though. Jamie (or whatever his name really is) is clearly lost and fumbling for connection. Perhaps it’s what led him to try and find it (along with status) in the wrong places. It certainly creates a strained dynamic between him and Daunis, a girl who is so in tune with her tribe and their teachings.
Daunis is such a smart and likeable MC though. I’d definitely read from Boulley again!

What a stunning yet short memoir. I love that Samra uses her voice to reclaim her queer identity in spaces that are often unwelcoming to QTPOC!

My favorite Glimmer Falls entry to date! I love the soft-stabby duo that is Ben and Eleonore. This entire series is just so goofy and fun, albeit the sprinkling of violence and political themes always throw me off a bit.

I went from “this is cute but kinda boring” to lowkey crying through the last few chapters. So yeah, stick with it if you can!
This was such a wholesome, heartwarming tale about the community we can build with our neighbors. I ended up really loving this but it took some time to get there. This is basically cozy litfic with an emphasis on character relationships and a slice-of-life plot to drive it along. Very slow paced but a calm, nurturing read 💚

Damn, Ember’s little white lies were really stressing me out! At first some of it felt understandable but by the end I was like “GIRL. STOP.”
However, I do think her character growth in learning to ask for help, coming clean, and working to rebuild those relationships with both her community and loved ones was wholesome. Some of it wrapped up a bit too conveniently, but it followed the general tone of this entire book, so it was consistent.
Overall, I’d be curious to read what else Danica writes and would check out her future work!

Honestly, as a Sailor Moon fan who's also turned into a stressed out, exhausted millennial, this was a cute short novel that I enjoyed! It's just incredibly short, and I feel like that took away from the potential it had of diving deeper into the topics it brought up. From the exhaustion of late stage capitalism to climate change to physical violence, there were a few heavy topics that could've been worth the longer page count.

*incomprehensible screeches over that ending*
Plz hold. I must process.
