Like the Eurovision the book is based on, this book has moments of pure joy, crushing despair and utter bewilderment.
Life is beautiful and life is stupid, indeed

This one the writing just wasn't for me. So many tangents right from the beginning and I could feel myself drifting off. I'll try it again later, but for now it is a DNF.

I really wanted to like this book.  It's narrated by one of my favorite narrators, though I was incredibly disappointed that he did not use his Australian accent for more than a few lines, and the book was described as a modern-day Douglas Adams book.  I suppose the author took that to heart, because she was trying way too hard to be Douglas Adams. It's like a manic pixie dream book screaming over and over again "look how quirky and random I am!  Lol, so funny, right?  But also, it's important because the fate of the whole human race rests on the heads of these jerks that I'm not going to describe in depth enough for you to get any real feeling for them because I have to keep making these lol funny random asides to give histories of these super random alien races I made up!  Aren't I just so random?"  If it hadn't been for the smooth tones of Heath Miller, I probably wouldn't have finished the book. The ending wasn't bad, though that was partially because it meant the book was over and I could stop trying to force myself to enjoy it.

I loved this book intensely. It is very obviously a love letter to Douglas Adams and David Bowie, and for that alone I would treasure it, but it is a wonderful, hilarious story in its own right, full of musical references and more importantly full of the joy of music. And the language! The language of this story is a pure delight.

I don't like to comment on the reviews of others, but I am really surprised to see not great reviews on this work, obviously a work of deep love. I get that Cat Valente's work is a little out there (a particular favorite of mine, and therefore I'm perhaps more inclined to like it) but I have to say if you don't absolutely love this book, you might want to check on the tightness of your panties... they might be a little too snug.

I just can't anymore with this book. I enjoyed Valente's wit, but I do not enjoy sci-fi enough to keep going.
