This series started out so strong but every installment gets a little harder to read. The drop in quality between the previous one and this one was huge. I'm 90% done and I simply can't bring myself to finish it

I can’t express how much I love this series, but I’m gonna try!
First, the concept of the series is fresh & creative. The execution is there too!! Often, I run into the problem where I like what the author was going for, but they just missed the mark. That’s not the case here!
Esta is probably my favorite female character ever. She’s wicked smart & badass. I really love that we get to see her love for Harte deepen. She’s always closed off — like, don’t fall for the mark —, but Harte is different. Likewise, it’s funny in an endearing way how Harte is trying to show Esta he loves her, but his antiquated notions are getting in the way. He’s trying to show her he loves her by “doing the right thing” & self-sacrifice, but that’s not how people show love in Esta’s time.
I’m also incredibly happy that we got to time travel again! I was kinda disappointed in The Devil’s Thief because of the lack of time travel (I understand why), but it made it much better taking Harte to all of these times out of context.
1902 plot — Jianyu & Cela are so cute! I think they’re a really good mirror of North & Maggie, and both are a good contrast to Esta & Harte. I also really appreciate the BLM dialogue that happens between the protagonists of the timeline.
Overall, smart social commentary with a kick-ass plot & complex characters to boot!

Pd: ¿PODEMOS HABLAR SOBRE EL FINAL? Mira si me vas a dejar ese final tan abierto, cerrame por lo menos una cosa dale.
Quotes:
""Because names have power," Cela said (...) "Naming is a way of claiming, isn´t it? Claiming yourself, claiming what you are. Names are powerful things, even without any magic attached.""
“Call it what you want. Fate. Destiny. Some things are meant. We´re meant. Time can´t unmake what we are” yo: DSBCHSBCHBS
"He loved? How ridiculos to discover that now, when it was far too late. When he would never be able to tell her.” Yo: VJNFJVJDB DALE DECILE
“In the end, the numbers don´t matter. One or one hundred, each is a life stolen – a promise wasted- all because of ignorance and hate”
“Everybody´s worthy from the moment they´re born, and maybe if more people understood that, we´d have a lot less ugliness in this world”
“(…) all he could depende on was the present as it stood in front of him, in all its beauty and all its terror. The past and the future were nothing but stories people told themselves to feel like they had some control over their life.”

this series is so underrated though i can understand why the length of these books can be intimidating. but i promise they fly by and if anything, you’re glad to have so much time to dive into the world and fall in love with the characters! i picked this book up thinking it was the finale and i quickly realized it definitely was not which i am slightly relieved by because there was too much to tie up even with 700 pages… if i were to explain this series in a nutshell i would say it’s six of crows meets avengers: endgame except the plot fills up 3 (going on 5) 600+ page books so definitely a long journey. i really enjoyed that i was essentially following two general points in time but still following nine different povs, heroes and villains alike. while some might be frustrated that 60% of the book was the characters failing at reaching their goals, it felt more realistic than being successful at their first or second shot (after all they’re trying to stop deities from unraveling time among your good ol greedy humans trying to rule the world). i do concede that for a 700 page book not much changes in the grand scheme of the story, but the author balances it well by following many different characters and their obstacles. i enjoyed the progress made on esta and harte and i hope they get their happy ending and harte finally learns not to say the opposite of what he means smh… i can’t wait for the next book though i am so glad fans have published recaps because i will be forgetting the plot in the span of 19 days. rating: 4.5 <3
