DNF'd at 270 pages. I loved Last Magician and I think I enjoyed the Devil's Thief, though it wasn't quite as memorable. Sadly though, I don't think I'll be able to finish this one. Part of that is on me as a reader--I forgot half the plot points of book two and completely forgot the new characters and subplots that were introduced. Part of this is on the book--there are so many characters and subplots and constant shifts in POV that I find it difficult to keep track (made worse by my spotty memory of previous books). I read a few reviews made before mine and came to the same conclusion...this book was moving too slow and had too much going on for me. I couldn't justify reading 700+ pages anymore. This may have been entirely different had I had the time to reread the first two, but unfortunately I did not. Again: still loved TLM, I just couldn't justify to myself finishing the series.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH, MY LITTLE CHICKEN HEART CAN'T WITH THIS-
Where do I start? I was very scared of reading this one after The Devil's Thief because the cliffhanger had me on edge between finishing that one and starting this one. Don't let the number of pages scare you, I'm not usually a fan of big books because it takes me a looong time to finish them, but this book felt like water running through my fingers the whole time.
Yes, I agree that this book could've been shorter, but I wouldn't take away a lot from it anyways, I felt like every part of it was very necessary for the story, except Jack's POVs because they were kind of long and didn't add anything to the story since Esta and Harte were already telling us what was gonna happen, but it was nice and interesting reading some of his attempts to take everything away from them and still fail :)
Another thing that I wished was more of Ruby on it, but maybe Lisa is saving that long-awaited story for the last book. Apart from that every single thing on it was perfect, I LOVED seeing the character and relationship development between Esta and Harte and see that, even though they were in different parts of the country, they were rooting and surviving for each other, so they could confess (FINALLY!) their feelings. It also was very nice to see how more unfolded their feelings were, after denying them for so long and the Harte's backstory fitted SO well and seeing him struggling with different timelines and fashion (him panicking everytime Esta showed up with her outfits was so funny, i can't-) was, HILARIOUS. *cries*
Viola NEVER disappoints, as always, she was the star of 1902's timeline as well as Jianyu, Cela, Abel and Theo. It was very cool to see how she outgrown all of the hatred her family taught her and be aware of her mistakes and prejudices and be more open-minded about everything.
If you were waiting for this book, I'M NOT GOING TO LIE, you need to read it, even though I'd recommend re-reading the other books for better understanding of the story.
Leaving this one here, because it was one of my favorite quotes:
"What makes you certain I don't feel the exact same way?"

AND MY SOUL LEFT MY BODY AS SOON AS I STARTED ANTICIPATING WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN THE TRAIN, SERIOUSLY. LISA MAXWELL REALLY SAID "YOUR PATIENCE WILL BE REWARDED" BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT- even though Harte ALMOST ruined it ('consequences', 'a mistake', seriously???)Viola NEVER disappoints, as always, she was the star of 1902's timeline as well as Jianyu, Cela, Abel and Theo. This is such an intriguing and unique series for me the plot is incredible and thrilling and kept me invested throughout. All of the characters are very well fleshed out and I love many of them. Some of my favourites are Harte, esta, jainyu and Celia. They are very incredible and well written characters. There are so many plot twists and turns to the series which truly keeps the story of the series incredibley unique and exciting. The action is very thrilling and the villain of hack grew is one of the best I’ve ever read for his pure evil nature and development throughout the series. I also love how this series is not afraid to talk about the discrimination present during the time that the book is set which makes the story only feel more brutal and real. This is truly a gripping and unique ya time travel fantasy series and I can’t wait to see where it goes next
