Sidney Sheldon never fails to provide an entirely compelling novel and 'Master of the Game' was no exception.
This novel spanned four generations of the Blackwell Family from their humble beginnings through the decades. The highs, lows, births, deaths, marriages, murders, manipulations and love.
Totally compelling and brilliant writing and plot with such developed and detailed characters. The only reason this novel is only a four star was because I felt that just over half way, the novel lost the fast-paced tension that had accompanied the earlier half of the novel. As I reached the pages dedicated to Alexandra and Eve I was losing interest, preferring the times of Jamie and Margaret, Kate and David.
This is my second reading of this novel, though the first was some time ago, and I definetly appreciated the novel mor ethe second time round.

Sidney Sheldon's Master of the Game is a typical example of how an ordinary book could hit the jackpot just with it's magnetic writing style. Although the linearity and predictability of the plot is quite clear since the start, the book is remarkable and simply unputdownable. Each character arc is built with adept clarity, and for long enough for the reader to be hooked on to the respective characters. Master of the Game is a path with unexpected twists that you anticipate eagerly, yet you ultimately know how to traverse it. It is an absolute must-read, and a journey full of ups and downs that you'll remember for long!

A real page turner. I read especially the last section in a breath. The book does not have any literary significance but you cannot help feeling compassion, sorry, angry, disgusted etc. for the characters. I would advise to anyone who wants to read a fast-paced book.

What a weird story twist. I hope to not be around people like this. Very strange indeed.

The book was absolutely INCREDIBLE. One of my all time favourites! Its a gripping fast-paced thriller that spans four generations of a family which harbours very dark secrets indeed. Each generation is characterised by different and unique events that define their personality, and the tales of revenge, love and ruin all come together beautifully to form the perfect thriller. I absolutely loved it.

3.5 maybe? Listen, it’s Sidney Sheldon. The books are pure, vacation-level fluff filled with terrible people doing awful things. But his ability to tell stories across generations is really entertaining and he knows how to write page turners. There’s something fascinating about a book this size, where at one point he can describe a setting for pages and pages and then introduce a character, have them fall in love and wed, and then tragically die all in 4 pages. Some problematic stuff here that doesn’t pass the test of time, but still pretty wild and fun to think this was one of the top books of 1982. Couldn’t put it down.

Entertaining story about a seriously dysfunctional family headed by a 90-yo matriarch.

I've read a few books like this before and I've always loved it. Once again, I was pretty much taken with this story. I've always been a fan of Sidney Sheldon, so it's a small wonder that I liked this book.
