Not bad, fiction to be taken with a piece of salt. A lot of suspension of belief and inaccuracies with fact of the City at that time. For historical fiction set in known places, I would expect the places to be accurate to the period even if the events have lots of creative freedom. A review below gives a better example of all the humourous inaccuracies (example: a journey that takes hours on foot taking days by horse)

I cant suspend my belief when someone is getting boiled then moments later running down a tunnel and running after a cart...

I might read the next book to see if they have improved. I expected more.

2.5/5, rounded to 3.

It's....ok. This and its sequel were on offer for £1 so I thought why not. Easy enough to read, and an interesting enough subject matter to enable you to overlook glaring inconsistencies and historical inaccuracy. The main character is engaging enough to encourage me to read the second book.
