This is the 17th Pendergast novel I have read and once again, the boys don’t disappoint! Most of their novels have what I call a Scobby-Doo ending. Things seem fantastical but typically have some rational explanation. Not this time! This one was wild! That is not to say I didn’t enjoy the formula change. It was a lot of fun and it should prove interesting what path they take after this one!

As always, Preston & Child write an entertaining novel, but this was just too goofy for me.

This book put the last nail into the coffin of my long-term relationship with Agent Pendergast. First I was intrigued, because I hoped for a classic supernatural explained by good fictional science solution.
Instead I get parallel universe time machine mosquito horror. Coldmoon - my beloved, had absolutely no function in this book but being the dumb sidekick Pendergast dragged along, solely for the purpose to explain the happenings to the reader through him. And what were the happenings really? All disconnected traces that Pendergast just randomly put together and found the truth. Yeah, he quickly meditated and then he just knew 🙄 And - oh my God - Constance, I hoped she would finally just die. Instead it feels like she‘s slowly becoming the MC, always rescuing Pendergast and then being a brat because he wouldn‘t f*ck her. Judging by the epilogue, the next book is all about her and her past -no thanks.
I‘m done with this series. Makes me sad, but I have to let it go.

What the hell was that?! Is this the jumping-the-shark moment for Pendargast?!

We begin with an intriguing mystery. We are introduced to our reporter character (a investigative journalist). Our bossy higher-up (some US senator). And the nice and competent police person, who just doesn't want any trouble.

We have Agent Coldmoon, who's always good to read. And we have Constance, doing Constance-y stuff. And we have the really creepy relationship between her and Pendergast, luckily not on the forefront.

But what the hell was that ending?!
SpoilerTime-traveling vampire?!
I truly don't know what to feel about this. And we end with a cliffhanger. This is probably gonna be another trilogy. Let's see where it goes now.

Not sure why this took me so long, but I haven't been motivated to read in a while. Too much going on, I guess. This Pendergast title was just okay. I don't mind the fantastical quality of many of the stories, but this one seemed to go too far for me. Just borderline ridiculous. I liked everything else about it, and Constance is still one of my favourite characters. I wavered between at 2.5 and 3 stars on this one.
