This book follows Kaliya, member of the Central Pack in an apocalyptic world. Kaliya is one of, if not the best, warrior in her pack, and probably the most dominant member of her pack as well. The latter is extremely important; the wolves mate based on dominance. They challenge each other, and the male wins only if he out-dominances the female. But no one has been able to do that to Kaliya yet. People age out of the packs by age 20 if they are unmated in an effort to get pack members to mate and keep their numbers high.
Kaliya's only hope is the gathering of the five packs, where she might just find a wolf that may be dominant enough to best her. And once she shows up, she gathers a couple of strong contenders. Are any of them dominant enough, though?
I liked this book. I liked Kaliya and how strong she was. I liked Emory, her friend, and how gentle and intelligent he was. I liked the majority of contenders for her hand, and the whole process of alpha challenging and mate challenging. I'm interested to see how things shake out in the next book.

I was really looking forward to this book as I was able to read en early excerpt and it was phenomenal. I grabbed my copy as soon as this came out and it was not what I expected. I expected this captivating book, keeping me on my seat wanting more. It was not the case. Instead, I was left scanning pages to actually find something I wanted to read. I was really devastated.
Don't get me wrong, this book wasn't bad, just not what I expected. The characters were great! I loved the details about each and every one. The men sound delicious. I just wanted to book to move faster and to not jump all over. Every chapter was a different character. While I enjoy that, this was almost too much jumping around.
This is a really slow start book so if you are not looking for that, then this is not the book for you. If you dont mind slow starting books, then this is a book to grab. I will give the next book a try to see if it is better than this one.
