I had been looking forward to reading this one since it was released in November and it was worth the wait! This debut novel had "slow-burn" development alongside the twists that keep me so addicted to thrillers. An interesting take on mental health issues/PTSD underscores the action, giving a real foundation after the intense action deployed in the first chapter. (And how much of a hook is this awesome cover?) Recommended for my fellow thriller fans and I will be keeping eye out for future offerings from author Samantha M Bailey!

What a book. This book will take you on a white knuckle ride. The chapters alternate between the two main characters.
This debut novel is well written and is a perfectly plotted thriller.
It is such a page turner. I didn’t want to put it down. It will captivate you from the very first page. Each short chapter ending on a cliff hanger will make you read one more chapter and before you know where you are it’s the small hours of the morning.
A great read and I can’t wait for more from this author.

Imagine waiting for your train and someone says ‘take my baby’ and hands her to you before she jumps in front of the oncoming train. That’s exactly what happens to Morgan and her life is instantly changed. Morgan doesn’t know why this woman gave her her baby, but now she is being questioned by the police about it and they are suspicious of her. Did this woman really kill herself or did Morgan push her? The story is being told in dual perspectives; by Morgan in present day and by Nicole, the mother, leading up to this incident.

Each woman's chapter was very gripping as you got further into the book and learned more about each of them. I couldn’t put it down as I wanted to know what happened in Nicole’s life that she’d do this as well as why she picked Morgan to have her daughter.

There was a lot going on in the book, which was a good thing because it kept it fast paced and enjoyable. Although I do wish it was slowed down maybe just a little bit. You were given a lot of information and a lot of things to process all at once, and they kept coming. It did keep me reading and I finished this in a day, but I also wish it spread out the suspense a little more.

Overall I enjoyed this book and was hooked from the beginning. Unfortunately there were a few things that were just too unbelievable and the ending was wrapped up too perfectly that I couldn’t give it a higher rating, but I did enjoy it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One day, Morgan Kincaid is standing in the subway, waiting for her train. A woman comes up to her, places her baby into her arms before jumping to her death. She is taken into police custody for questioning, where she finds out the woman is Nicole Markham, CEO of Breathe, a successful clothing line. No witnesses can corroborate her story, making her a suspect for murder. In order to clear her name, Morgan must try to find the connection between her and Nicole.

The book is very fast-paced and full of twists and turns. I was able to figure out what was going on in the end, but it was still a fun adventure to get there. It's one of those stories where you can't put it down because you need to know what is going to happen next. I like how the story was told in two POV, one in the present and one in the past. It was interesting to watch Nicole spiral into her paranoia. It was a wild ride trying to piece together how Morgan and Nicole were connected, I didn't end up figuring it out until it was revealed, which was nice. The ending was a bit rushed, but overall, a pretty entertaining read!

This book kept me reading past my bedtime for several reasons but it was worth it. First, this is the first time in a long time where I liked and empathized with both narrators (a feat on its own because I often can’t stand the MC).

Second, while I did end up figuring out which characters were not as they appeared to be, it didn’t matter. What kept me reading was the discovery of how the two MCs were connected and why one decided to entrust her baby to someone she did not know.
