While the story of Elizabeth Packard is remarkable and very much worth telling, this book was too slow and dragged on to the point of becoming repetitive and dull. I appreciate and admire the author’s research and reporting, but I feel that Elizabeth’s story could have been told in half of these pages.

Really infuriating and inspiring story overall, surprised I had never heard of Packard before. More or less really great subject matter but both a bit repetitive and sometimes wanting me looking for more details. For example, Moore didn’t really dive into Packards beliefs until the trial, long into the book. Moore’s writing felt a bit inconsistent and probably could've used a bit more editing before publication.

Fascinating story. I’d recommend this book to anyone because the struggle to simply be heard as a woman then, and even now at times, seems like something everyone should understand better.

This was excellent. I loved hearing about Elizabeth's life and ideas. Kate Moore synthesized all of the various sources extremely well and produced a very thought-provoking narrative. The fact that Elizabeth was able to accomplish so much is truly incredible and inspiring. What a great read

"Devalue the words of women and half the battle is won."

Kate Moore is a master at hidden history.

Sadly, it is too easy to see how we could easily get right back to this reality. Not sure how far we have come as a society.
