This is my second Harper Sloan book this week, but unlike the first, this is the finale in a series.
Clay Davis is the oldest of the Davis siblings and runs the family ranch. He's a workaholic and hasn't been in a serious relationship for a while. One night, he's in Hazel's, a local bar, and he meets a woman who "wants to be bad". They end up going to a motel for a night of passion, but the woman doesn't know who he is. The whole night was spent in darkness.
Caroline Michaels can't get her "dark cowboy" out of her mind. Imagine her surprise when she realizes it Clay, someone she had a crush on when she was younger. Once Clay sets his eyes on Caroline, he's not letting her out of his sight again.
Caroline was in an abusive relationship and had a really shitty childhood. She has some real insecurities, and can't understand what a man like Clay sees in someone as "plain" as her. But Clay is hearing none of that. He's decided he wants her "bad" all the time.
Clay has taken care of his brother and sister forever, but they are both married and on their own, so he has no one to take care of. When Caroline starts having problems in her life, Clay of course steps in and offers to help her out. Caroline resists at first, because she's stubborn and proud.
Caroline became a much stronger woman over the course of this book, thanks to Clay's love and affection. Clay was the ONLY alpha male in this series and took charge when it came to Caroline. Clay also changes - he becomes less focused on work and more focused on his happiness, which involves Caroline.
The drama at the end was a little over the top in my opinion, but it didn't take away from the story.
I loved the epilogue - it was the perfect ending to the series. I would recommend the series to anyone.

This was my first read from this author. I loved it! Two damaged souls find each other and learn that what you need sometimes find you when you least expect it. Clayton has been burned and never want a family of his own. Caroline is starting her life over as an independent woman. Neither one of them planned on the other and that makes the story even sweeter. Great read!

Oh Harper Sloan. You have once again hit it out of the ballpark with this one and I think this is my favorite one of the series! Clay has always intrigued me from the first moment and I was so not disappointed. Caroline matched him toe to toe and I think that is what I really loved about this one. The raw passion these two have but also the emotional chemistry. The pain from the past for both of them to come to where they are in the story was breathtaking and something you really aspire your life to be. Honestly, I wanted a cowboy again after reading this one… and I am married to one!
Overall, I loved this book. It flowed brilliantly and I could not put it down. Sloan just knows how to work those feels in and you get yourself so wrapped up into the story that it becomes your world. If you haven’t read any of the books from this series, I would highly recommend getting to know the Davis siblings. It is so worth the binge read!

Having been waiting for the final installment in Harper's Coming Home series, it was nice to finally get to wrap up with Clayton's story. The eldest Davis brother one of the more mysterious characters in the first two books so the build up was quite intense. The way this story unfolds matches just his character. From their meeting (in a bar, nonetheless) has Caroline and Clayton's story as the more unconventional of meetings. The rest of the story follows suit with the most drama of the three books. Though there was a high level of emotion in this book, there was an unbelievable amount of drama that was more jaw-dropping than it was relateable. From Clayton's crazy ex to Caroline's shady past, the secondary characters in their lives made for a hugely bumpy ride to happily ever after for this pair. The writing was easy to get through and the story was definitely gripping and hard to put down. A nice, albeit dramatic, end to a sweet (and, at times gut-wrenching) cowboy series!

Eh, a little too much “I love you forever and always” going on, a little too much melodrama, and a little too much sudden insanity. Someone as crazy as a certain character in this book would have shown some signs of that long before.

Clay and Caroline are different in many ways, but they share a bond that is destined to bring them together. Both have been burned by love and scarred by life. Clay is the ever responsible older brother determined to lead by example. His role hasn't been easy and his choices not always wise, but his heart has always been in the right place. When it comes to love of family he's on solid ground, matters of the heart are a personal minefield. Caroline is the first woman who slips under his radar and finds her way into his heart. She has a few suitcases full of her own emotional baggage to carry. Trust issues, painful memories and a fresh start, land her right in the path of the biggest recluse in town. What unfolds is a relationship that is passionate, flawed and will make a heart ache, but it will also inspire. Before reading this series, I had never heard of Harper Sloan and now I can't imagined my bookshelf without her.
