I am such a fan of Cussler and his character Dirk Pitt that I don't mind wading through the details of the latest threat to civilization and the glories of Dirk. His stories are always preposterous and fun. Flood Tide is particularly ridiculous, with its premise of world domination by China via illegal immigration.

Book Review - Dirk Pitt 14 Flood Tide by Clive Cussler

Part of this book sets the scene for the Oregon Files as it fills in how certain characters end up where they are in those books.

It has been a long time since i read this book last and I forgot how much of a thrill ride, the Dirk Pitt books are. He always gets into trouble.
If I didn't have new books that I need to read so that I can return them to someone I borrowed them from I would probably spend the last few weeks of this year reading either the Dirk Pitt series of the Oregon Files
I know I will be reading them during next year though

I read this in an environment that was as stressful as it was completely boring, and with pretty much no choice of books to read. That said, I do like the Dirk Pitt series -- I trust it to be some mindless fun action-adventure type reading. And this book delivered. It was fun, I liked the story, and it cheered me up while I was reading it. That said, this book, and the series in general, never really leaves me reeling or clamoring for more. I read this books one or two at a time, and I like it like that.

Another fun romp in the ocean. A rich Chinese guy is going to change the flow of the Mississippi so that his evil smuggling empire will be even bigger. Dirk and Al will just have to prevent that from happening somehow.

Okay, I got bored and didn't read the last 100 pages. I think I've outgrown my liking for Dirk Pitt, sadly.
