Really enjoyed the series

I started reading this after seeing the first movie, and I have to say I enjoyed it. The installment of "Four" was unnecessary. I believe that there's really no reason to rehash a storyline from another point of view and it leaves you open to putting holes in your story. Nevertheless, it's a great read.

Oh, God, where do I begin?! SO AMAZING!!! Absolutely worth the hype. The story was deep and meaningful, the action intense, the characters complex and realistic. I loved the world and the events that happened to it, the family drama, the trials and training that Tris went through. The love story was beautiful beyond words. Tris and Tobias will have special places in my heart. DIVERGENT is my favorite of the series, INSURGENT was really emotional, ALLEGIANT was heartbreaking, and FOUR was fun because... more Tobias!!! Now, thoughts on the ending, without spoiling anything: As a fangirl, it kills me. Seriously, I cried through the last seven chapters. As a writer and lover of a good story, I thought it was perfect. It will stick with me for a long time. Perfectly symbolic, a story where everything comes full circle. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!!

I enjoyed this series until I got to the end. The last book destroyed it for me. I was so disappointed by how things turned out!

I loved this series. And then I hated it. Worst ending ever. It didn't even make sense. I felt like the author must have an ex that she hated and wanted to punish by writing these books. It may be the most visceral reaction I've ever had to a series.

A little back story:

I started this series way back when, read to somewhere in Allegiant, got irrationally angry, threw the book across my bedroom, and never finished it.

Fast forward to 10 years later and I'm reading the 10 year anniversary edition of this series and I can't help but think, why did I throw this book across the room? Middle school Jacquie liked this series a lot more than current Jacquie (makes sense, I guess). This YA dystopian series was written with a clear audience in mind (14-17 year old women) with some not-so-subtle religious backdrops. Of course I liked the idea of factions based on inherent character traits and the clear power struggle between characters and factions. This series started off strong with the Divergent book, but ultimately lost steam with each installment, with Allegiant being the least enjoyable ending to a series I've possibly ever read.

That being said, I really enjoyed the 4th installment: Four. In reading interviews of Roth I learned that she initially wrote this series from the viewpoint of Four and ultimately switched to Tris. I liked Tris' POV. I would have liked Four's better, leading me to my rating.

The first two books in the series kept me focused & looking for more. As the series when on...it faded.
