I can definitely see Sherlock in this proto-version of him, Dupin. I enjoyed the story for its historical value; less so for its tedious opening and, IMO, ridiculous reveal toward the end.

I found the main protagonist to be not my favourite person, but that gave it more depth, and it was well written, so recommend.
