I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I wish I would have read it sooner!

It was a cute story. It wasn't her best and was pretty predictable from beginning to end. I didn't really care for the constant deluge of the self righteous moral pushing she did in this book. I haven't read LMA for sometime but I don't remember her other books being as preachy as this one.

I'm not someone who typically enjoys rereading books, but An Old-Fashioned Girl is one of the rare novels that I come back to again and again and again. The story is simple and charming and sweetly romantic, populated with people I would like to know and who I enjoy following from childhood to adulthood. They're not perfect, but they're goodhearted and while not unafraid to do so, they still face their flaws honestly. Although written more than a century ago, Louisa May Alcott's lessons on the acts and attitudes that "render home what it should be---a happy place where parents and children, brothers and sisters, learn to love and know and help one another" still ring true for me every time.

Louisa May Alcott has created such a delightful character in this book. Polly is inspiring. Her outlook on life and her ability to turn situations positive are uplighting and wonderful to read.

This is a book, like Anne of Green Gables, that I will re-read during those difficult times in life when things just seem rough because Polly and Anne are a bright, beautiful light in an otherwise dark world.

Re-read this again after watching the latest version of Little Women and needing more Alcott fix. Like a lot of Alcott's books, it is preachy. However, I can't argue against what she has to say. I mean, I do end up wanting to be a bit better and more satisfied with my life after reading An Old-Fashioned Girl. And it really is the sweetest love story. I have read this numerous times in my life, and will keep coming back to it.

I enjoyed this book, but found the archaic language and cultural references made for slow going, as I kept stopping to look up words or customs. However, I learned a lot about life in the 1870s. And I adored Polly, the main character. I think she may be my new role model! She had a true servant's heart.
