The second Longmire adventure maintains the first's loose charm. These really are the kind of characters you love to check in with once a year. Craig Johnson's got a winner of a series here. My only real complaint is that Johnson, like Stephen King, the world's worse offender, has a bad habit of giving many of his characters the same voice. Especially the women who are, to a one, sassy. It's not a deal breaker, but it does tend to irritate the farther along a series goes.

Okay. I am hooked. Lookout. I will probably read them all.

Enjoyed this second book as much as the first

This series is rapidly becoming my favorite. The author masterfully blends the Cheyenne, Caucasian, and Basque cultures native to Walt Longmire's stomping grounds and creates and beautiful image of the best and worst of mid-west culture.

In just two books, he's managed to create in me a sympathy for Walt that I rarely experience while reading. I enjoy all of the characters and the pace of these books.

Death Without Company will stand as the book that cemented my appreciation for Walt, Vic, Ruby, "Ladies Wear," and Lucian.

I'm looking forward to the future books in the series.

I liked this book better then the last one. It was more consistent and flowed well without the scatter shot narrative. The plot while good was slightly far fetched but all the ends were tied up in a way that makes it work and a few flash backs help fill in any gaps. The characters are well rounded, smart and funny but can reach into themselves to show empathy as well which comes across nicely to the reader. The pace was stead with a bit of pickup that worked well for a climax with a twist in it that I didn't see coming until the moment before it was presented. The dialogue was good with the exception that a conversation or two between more then two characters need a name of the speaker so you don't get mixed up as to who is imparting what information to whom. Over all a good story.

A woman at a nursing home has died and another insists that she was murdered even thought there is no evidence of foul play. When the body is looked over to pacify the friend of the woman it comes to light that her past and her currant finances might have something to do with her sudden death when it comes to light she didn't die of natural causes. An interesting web of interconnecting lives are upset and put at risk when the case goes on and is investigated. It becomes a cat and mouse game to see if the sheriff can solve the case before all his witnesses are eliminated and the past they know about it lost to time.

This is a great series. Craig Johnson is a great story teller. Excellent mystery with a bit of humor.

This author visited Franklin, and I read the first of the series before hearing him speak. He recommended the audio version, as did a library friend. Off I went with book two in the series on audio.
