Undoubtedly a great satirical work, though for me in particular not a very easy read. Moments of brilliant absurdity are surrounded by passages where I have no idea what's going on. I might return to this one day, after reading more, maybe getting better at understanding what this wonderful author wants me to read.

Less open farce and consequently fewer big laughs than in Men at Arms. Still a lot of satire, but more visibly miserable than in the preceding book. More stuff happens. Most events are brought on by disorganisation.

A great farce, but starting to get a lot bleaker. Excellent and with a wild cast of characters. Still very much seeming on the periphery of things, which is probably why it can afford to still be funny. Will be really interesting to see where it ends up

Some language, but otherwise it was a good novel. I think I would have enjoyed it even better had I read the first in the series before the second, but not matter. I'll attempt to rectify it sooner or later and read the first one.

Officers and Gentlemen is a lot more serious than its predecessor in the Swords of Honour series. I enjoyed seeing the characters again and exploring what they were up to.
The retreat from Crete was interesting with the variety of perspectives and actions of those who were experiencing it. Guy’s actions were well written and I do like him as a character.
Overall though, although by rights I should have really enjoyed this book there was something that stopped me from fully losing myself in it. I don’t know what it was, but it was a shame as I could identify it was a good book.

Never did finish...oh so close. But, didn't enjoy enough to push through. Didn't miss the humor, but more work than I could put in

Even better than Men at Arms. Very black in places and a couple of points caused outright laughter. Some very bitter points but overall a splendid book
