The interest that was ( weakly) built for me in the first book sadly died in this one. OKAY — the F-bombs in this book are unreal, they were overbearing and just awkwardly put into dialogues or responses. . Who is editing this?!
Morgan was immature, annoying and honestly most of her reaction didn’t make sense. Her responses just had no logic and I had a hard time believing this was the same character from book 1. Idk how they fall in love with each other when most of the time Dravon is explaining everything to her like a child and she’s throwing tantrums. ( and she hates him ) Their 🌶️scenes were hard to read. ( it’s 2024 why are we writing spicy scenes with no foreplay???! Esp if it’s someone’s first time??) nothing much happens plot wise until the end.

Urgh. I liked Morgan because she wasn’t a stupid and whiny FMC. She was powerful, had potential to grow into herself, and bounced back from her mistakes.
In this book she made all the wrong calls, was whiny as hell and once she made a decision about someone she wouldn’t let anyone tell her otherwise. She was so unbelievably hot and cold and immature. Her character development seems to backwards and then stall. She’s 21 or so years old and her number one come back is “I hate you” a handful of different times? She lacks so much depth.
I also found the pacing of this book to be all over the place. In 400 some odd pages, the book didn’t progress much, in my opinion.
I’ll keep reading the series because I enjoyed the first one, the author writes well, and the reviews seem to indicate the next one is more similar to the first book.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am left speechless, the end of this book…
This book is written beautifully, I love getting to know Draven better and understanding who he really is. I think he might be my favourite character.
Morgan makes me a bit angry in this book but I still love her. I think her new powers and her figuring out who she really is was incredible.
I think the characters in this book are so well written. I could not put this book down! I highly recommend picking up this series, it does not disappoint!

3.75/4 stars (still unsure of what to rate it!)
"But I see you, Morgan Pendragon. I see you truly for everything you are and everything you will be and I claim you as mine."
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for sending me an e-ARC of this book!
I liked the concept of this book - Morgan waking up in an entirely new setting, and Draven telling his people that she's his paramour (it's basically just the fake dating trope in a Fae setting) And the concept of the Blood Rise was also really interesting (three brutal trials that they were competing in for the throne). I was hooked reading this book and it was very fast paced!
The Court of Umbral Flames was such an interesting place to read about, it was so unique! The character development was good in this book, but it annoyed me that Morgan couldn't trust Draven even after everything he'd done to protect her and others, but I suppose if you put yourself in her position, he did lie about things and keep secrets. I found them both quite infuriating in this book to be honest!
I also really liked Lyrastra, and it was nice seeing her and Morgan's friendship(??) blossom. I'm so glad we got more romance between Draven and Morgan in this book, and both of them finally started opening up to each other.
Unfortunately, the last 15% or so annoyed me, which is another reason why this wasn't a five star read for me. You get all this character development and then it's just completely erased in the last part of the book. The plot twist was great, but the fact it's torn Draven and Morgan apart just seems unnecessary, and makes it way harder to root for them as a couple when everything is so messy! But the final plot twist had me so shocked - I'm definitely so excited to see how that plays out in the third book!
Overall, I did enjoy this book, but there were a few aspects of it that just took away from my reading experience! I still definitely want to read the third book though!

"My memory might have been a hazy jumble, but I was fairy certain I would have remembered the horns."
4.5 ⭐️
This was such a great continuation and part two of Blood of a Fae. The lore of Queen of Roses gets explained while at the same time even more lore gets uncovered, and I'm eager to know all about it. While the first book focused more on Morgan's world, we now get dragged into Draven's world which is surprisingly similar in terms of cruelty, just a lot more fae.
