I really liked this novel at the beginning. It was weird and strange and something drew me towards the main character. But as the novel progressed I found myself not caring. I put it down sometime last week and just haven't picked it back up again.
This is one of the only novels I've put down without finishing. I'd like to think I'll pick it up again some time in the future, but I don't think I will.

The cover is great though and I loved the mushrooms.

Surreal. This story might be a mushroom apocalypse or a philosophical mushroom trip, or a sad tale of a lonely life that is braced with music... Like a  oetic hallucination the book is a tale that spins not always making sense often dreamlike and disjointed yet fluid and poetic it flows on and on and the story continues... Fascinating. Very thought provoking.

This book wanted to be interesting and meaningful but ultimately was neither lol. It feels so patchworked together with just… nothing. 2 stars because I can see the intent but this felt so poorly executed

A wonderous story on how music can be an analogy for the direction and purpose of life and the importance of having the will to take a turn sometimes. The mushroom-interludes were confusing, but at the same time helped the protagonist reflect and created a spice outside space and time of reality.

This book isn’t at all what I expected it to be and I’m not sure I even fully understand what it was.
Its about one woman’s life and journey of self-discovery and realizing all she gave up and settled for in life, but after she’s already married and her mother-in-law comes to live with her and her husband. The mushrooms and the dreams and the ghost music play much less of a role than I thought they would. It’s beautifully written and the author portrays longing so well.
Also her husband sucks and i hate him.
