This book was lovely, charming and delightful. I didn't know it was the third book in the series until I looked it up on Goodreads after I read it. But it was a good stand alone.
Betsy is feisty and loveable. I love that she just wants to do what she wants to do with her life, instead of doing what society tells her to be. Joel is the natural hero in the story, even if he doesn't always act like that. This one was a great combination of history, romance, and mystery. Not a book I'd normally read, since I find some historical romances difficult to read, but this one was a great read.

What an enjoyable book set in the Ozark mountains of Missouri in 1885! The main character, Betsy Huckabee was introduced as a youngster in an earlier book in the series. In this book she is a 24 year old independent woman full of spirit and charm. She is not looking for love but finds it anyway with the new deputy from Texas. Deputy Joel Puckett has had enough of women and only hopes to start over and eventually become a sheriff. Through the adventures of their community, including the famous Bald Knobbers, they find love and trust.
Even though I shelved it as a Christian title, that aspect is so light that it would not bother anyone who prefers not to read Christian fiction. The author has done a great job depicting the world of Pine Gap, Missouri.

I really enjoyed the freshness of the character Betsy. She was a hoot!
The Ozark culture was authentic and very detailed.
To me the romance seemed a bit rushed, but other than that I found this book to be entertaining and at times funny. Between Joel and Betsy this made for a wonderful read.

Sweet, quick little read. The couple doesn't get mad at each other for long, or punish each other, and are quick to try to view things from the other's perspective. Pretty refreshing.

I absolutely loved this book. I related to both main characters and I was picturing the dreamy deputy through the whole book. He got better with every chapter. So did Betsy, though. I felt their pain, happiness, nervousness, and anger. I absolutely despise most love stories because they're too sex based. They don't focus on the whole story usually and it's soured me on many of them. I'm so glad to see a clean, Christian romance that had a true gentleman vs a modern bad boy user. LOVE THIS BOOK!

This was such an engaging read, for so many reasons! But the foremost of those reasons would have to be Betsy Huckabee and Joel Puckett. Both were strong personalities in different ways: Betsy, with the impish twinkle in her eye and an independent spirit that doesn’t shy away from a little adventure; and Joel, the serious lawman who is keen to establish his authority and protect his reputation, but turns out to be more than a match for Betsy in both wit and wiles! He might be quieter about it, but he could certainly be audacious in his own way!
Deputy Joel Puckett arrives in Pine Gap ready to restore law and order, only to find that a group of local men have taken the law into their own hands. Law-abiding citizens by day, they don burlap-sack masks at night and ride anonymously as the Bald Knobbers gang, warning off those who threaten the peace and safety of Pine Gap’s residents and seeking the man who was responsible for the death of one of the town’s residents. Their hearts are in the right place, but they constantly butt heads with Deputy Puckett, who believes they need to do things ‘by the book’.
Betsy makes a point of trailing the handsome new deputy whenever she can, which means she’s often on the fringe of the action—and often exasperating said handsome new deputy. And yet there’s something about her that draws Joel’s attention again and again, and I loved the way their mutual admiration and friendship developed. There were some humorous moments in this story too; sometimes wry, and sometimes laugh-out-loud—the latter often as a result of Joel’s unexpected audacity. Keep a look out for one of the best set-downs ever and a particularly cheeky kiss! ;-)
And, of course, what would a romance be without a little personal complication? But with all this drama going on, I never once felt like anything was being forced or inflated or overdone.
Well done on a thoroughly enjoyable read, Regina Jennings!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review.

Enjoyable overall, not my favorite. It wasn't really clear what the hero and heroine really saw in each other, although they certainly affected each other.
IDK I enjoyed this much more than the other Jennings book I read but I'm not sure I'll seek out her work in the future.
