This book has been on my TBR for more years than I care to admit, but I am glad I finally picked it up. From the first line of “I am Mary. I am a witch.” I was hooked. I liked that the story was told through diary entries from Mary in a first person account of all the horrors she experienced. As the story progressed and it became clearer that the town was suspicious of Mary, the harder it was to put the story down. It was a really interesting historical fiction YA novel and I look forward to continuing in the sequel.

This book is pretty boring in my opinion. If you've read much about the Salem Witch Trials or if you've read The Crucible, don't bother with this. It's so similar as to not be worth your time. If you don't know much about the time or the crazy ideas they had, then it would be interesting.

Witch Child is good...I guess?

The writing and the story are great, no doubt. I love me some witches. But framing it as a real historical event does it such a disservice. I mean, unless you like reading books and thinking, "This isn't right..." all the way through.

This was a great fiction-written-as-non-fiction book. The diary format made for easy reading. This book would be a great introduction to the witch trials. Reading it after The Witch of Blackbird pond would also really add to what you'd get out of this book. My library spent have Sorceress, the next book, but I'll definitely read it.

A book that puts modern thoughts of being restricted to shame, you love the main character and thus lose yourself in the possibility of her being cast out or killed.
