In the sea of carbon copy one dimensional young adult novels, Stacey Kade's stands out.
"The Ghost and the Goth" had the potential to be really, really bad. It could have delved into a Twilight-esque melodrama replete with characters who grow zero percent, learn nothing, and are instantly the best at everything they do, born to die and fight stereotypical "evil" for all eternity. How nice that someone created a world with clearly defined, easily recognizable good and bad. This book; however, is not that at all.
These people actually have to work for what they achieve by the end. Alona and Will are both in not good places at the beginning. Will is a reluctant medium with no idea what he's supposed to do with his "gift" and Alona is . . . well . . . dead. They both have layers of strengths, weaknesses, and problems that must be dealt with and there is no easy fix. They are each integral to the success of the other.
Amidst the supernatural components of the story, the characters are dealing with real issues such as loss, grades, bullying students and authority figures, social issues, learning to be a kind person, and less than perfect parents. I loved unraveling the plot, laughing at the quirky humor, and learning about these great characters.

I've been reading a lot of teen lit lately. Just like the rest, The Ghost and the Goth suffers from a not so deep plot. Still, this was a fun read, and just different enough from the rest. On the one hand I felt like the explanations of high school hierarchy were spot on, but on the other hand, the descriptions were a bit too heavy handed. We get it, high school's a pain, you can't be friends with just anyone. Quit hitting me over the head with it!
Just when I started getting into the story, it was over. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the trilogy.

The title sounded really asinine, but this was much more enjoyable than I'd expected.

Something I just read for fun. It certainly was. A little weird at times, but that's probably more because I'm not usually the kind to read this type of book. Still, I loved the characters and it was written well. Worth a read if you just want something light and cute.

The Ghost and the Goth was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I like that the author kept the book straight and short, therefore skipping out on any unnecessary details. You won't find any detours in this book.
The alternating POVs in this book worked really well. I actually also liked Alona, whereas I am usually annoyed by characters like her. Her snark balanced out her obnoxious moments, even though she wasn't nearly as obnoxious as other popular-girl protagonists. And Will was well, okay. I didn't take to him as much, mostly because he wasn't nearly as smart and fun as Alona. But I absolutely loved their chemistry. It just clicked! And the romance wasn't sappy, which made it that much cuter.
I'm only giving this 4 stars mostly because there really wasn't much depth to the story. It kind of lacked that five-star factor. This book is just one of those really well-written but light reads. A really good one at that though!

That was cute, funny, unusual and wonderful reading experience. I loved POVs of both protagonists, I enjoyed the plot, the banter between Alona and Will was hilarious! The book is fresh and unique and highly recommended!

Honestly, this is just as cheesy as the cover and as predictable as the title makes it out to be.

YAmpires Book Club #2: Surprisingly adorable and well written, for an incredible clichéd, trope filled ya romance.
