this book was interesting, although le fanu villianizes carmilla into the stereotypical lesbian vampire (violent, seductress, manipulative) machado’s footnotes and introduction reclaim an inherently queer story while allowing the text to present itself as it was written (albeit in all its heteronormativity and homophobia), machado is brilliant and allows for affirmation of the novel’s queerness and its real life queer basis

A really fun, quick, spooky story. A little too short to really dig in to character development. The audiobook was dramatized nicely.

Good English from the author.
But the story is very short, who was Carmilly's mother who left her to live on different estates?
And what was the point of this lodging story if Carmilla could have killed all the people supposedly anyway?
