This short novel, less than 100 pages, was beautifully written, a testament to both the author and the translator of the edition I read, Chris Andrews. Succinct but not sparse, it's a good book for a bibliophile in style and subject, but as the novel went on I felt it leant too heavily into the notion of woman as siren. As I get older, indeed even when I was younger, the idea of women leading uncomplicated, naive men around by attraction, without examination of why feels more hollow, more unrealised, more tiring and so in spite of the prose and the length of this novel, 3 stars.

Una lectura conmovedora. Me encanto el misterio que asechaba a todos momentos. Nunca se sabe exactamente quien fue el “abuelo” de Severina, pues nuestro narrador también se convierte en el señor Blanco al último con la falsificación de su pasaporte. 

El autor por si mismos admitió que todos libros deberían de ser “thrillers”. Y este no decepciona en ese sentido. Me gusto mucho el mundo en que habita nuestro narrador, se puede apreciar muy bien las calles y en ambiente de Guatemala que por su puesto me recuerda mucho a Teocuitatlan y Mazamitla y aunque la historia de amor fue muy problemática, sin embargo me recuerda mucho a los días y noches que camine a lado de Eloísa y en esos pueblo hermoso. 

La literatura fue su propio personaje. Me gusto mucho la importancia de los Libros en esta novela. En muchos sentidos me recordó mucho La Sombra Del Viento.

creía o decía creer que detrás de los libros, los objetos que llamamos libros, había un espíritu de clase.

Vivir por y para los libros... Severina de Rodrigo Rey Rosa. Una novela concisa, redonda que se disfruta fugazmente como un té ensoñado en una madrugada fría e insomne. Clap, clap y hurra. Con libros así no hay para cuando dejar el horrendo vicio de leer.

"Ahmed had spoken of an illness. But I felt that there must have been another explanation, which I associated with an uncompromising approach to life: absolute freedom, a radical realization of the ideal that I too had adopted one fine day-the ideal of living by and for books."

Loved it. Wasn't always a fan of the narrator, particularly at the beginning, with his objectification of Severina, but the novella was great, fascinating, and full of literary references.
