This is book 3 in the series and just like the other 2 books it’s a captivating story and world. Book 3 starts right where book 2 finished off we get more insight to Morgan’s heritage and her family, we also get to see how much Morgan has grown and developed.
Overall I found Morgan’s character development was really good in this book, I felt like she was more confident and just smarter in general less naive in this book.
I loved the dream scenes between Morgan and Draven and I love how much he empowers her, I really like how the bond is forming between them.
Overall another great book in the series and I can’t wait for book 4!

this has really gone done hill as each book goes on. the first one, despite its flaws, i did enjoy and was intrigued about where it was going. i am stupid. i thought the second book was a painful read, boy was i not ready for the pain the third would inflict on me.
how is it that as the books go on the writing has become WORSE. the spelling mistakes, the inhuman and awkward interactions, the abrupt tone changes. its a fucking mess. morgan has the most unreliable moral compass and after all she has been through is insanely trusting of strangers. how does she keep falling for people who smile. they’re the biggest liars out here WAKE UP. tyre was the traitor?? ohhh wowwww who would have seen that coming?? oh yeah ME. !
the bad dialogue did no favours when bringing a beloved character back to life. their catch up/make up talk was so fucking flat. i did like lancelet in the first book but jesus christ u slaughtered her character this book lmfao. i did Not care if she lived or died, there was no connection there for me.
personally morgan forgave draven way too fucking fast. basically 10% in and shes like :( my husband<3 miss him<3 like okay damn u miss him. fair. but you have to rebuild the trust up from zero because that was a fucking blow he unleashed at the end of book 2. she made a whole ordeal over it too, only to then be like oh no… i shouldn't have left like that. 2 days later. wow.
“my little silver one” GAG. this is an awful pet name. i would expect this as more of a parent to their child name not from ur HUSBAND.
if there is another book to come, please PLEASE watch human beings talk for five minutes. you have the craziest structure in ur dialogue that is either flat or erratic. its so unnatural. “you lovely girl. my darling niece.” LMFAOOOO WHOOOOO IS TALKING LIKE THIS.
finally, PLEASE LET THE HOSTILITY TOWARDS JAVER GO. IM SICK OF IT. i think he’s committed the least crimes in your whole circle and yet u STILL hold him accountable for beks’ death. grow up.
edit: im sorry javer’s death scene…. i have to LAUGH. what the fuck lmfaooooo

“I’d rather be a villain by your side than play the hero for anyone else.”
I feel like this series gets better and better with every book! This one was a wild ride, and I can’t wait for the final installment.
Note: I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for honest feedback.
❤️ Strong FMC
❤️ Nicely done “Forced Separation” trope
❤️ Side characters and fluffy sidekicks
❌ Predictable “Betrayal/False Friend” trope
Make sure to read the trigger warnings, as there are many and things get pretty dark here and there.
Plot:
Morgan ran from the Court of Umbral Flames and her forced husband to return to Camelot. But the situation in her former home is worse than she thought as King Arthur will stop at nothing to control the magical sword Excalibur and eliminate any threat to his reign. To save her kingdom and her friends, Morgan needs to infiltrate the Court of Roses and survive long enough for the Siabra army to arrive.
The stakes are high: Morgan’s youngest brother is in mortal peril, her best friend is alive but drastically changed, people are dying on the streets, enemies are closing in from all sides, and she is sent to the viper’s nest to spy on Arthur and his court. There’s court intrigue, action, trauma healing, friendship, love, etc. The balance between plot and romance/spice was juuuust right, and I feel like Morgan and Draven’s time apart was a very good thing. In the previous book, there was too much arguing for the sake of the slow burn / hate to love tropes, and I’m more than happy that Morgan is out of her “I hate you” phase.
Characters:
Morgan is, finally, growing on me! She is coming into her own and embracing her power. She is still a little too naïve for my liking (she *should* have suspected who was the traitor right from the start), and I can’t forgive her actions toward Lancelet in this book, but I still liked her better than in the first two books. We didn’t see a lot of Draven in this one, but he was *chef’s kiss* every time he was there. As usual, the side characters are great. Hawl has my whole heart. Love Gawain. Guinevere was a great addition. And why do I love Orcades so much?!
Writing:
I love Boleyn’s writing. The descriptions are vivid and evocative, the dialogues feel natural, and the pace in this one was superior to the first two books. The only thing that annoys me a little is that some of the characters’ features are mentioned many times, and described exactly the same way each time. Instead of reading over and over that Draven’s skin is bronze-tinted and that Guinevere is curvy with brown hair, I’d like to know more about their other features, or even about how they talk or walk.

“That’s where you’re mistaken, Fenyx. I’m no princess. You’re addressing the wife of Prince Kairos Draven Venator and the Empress of the Court of Umbral Flames and the empire of Myntra.”
The loss of Draven and Nightclaw’s connection to Morgan was a major blow, and Arthur’s demise, though it came with regret, added a complex twist. What really made this book shine, though, was the incredible strength of the female characters. They brought a whole new level of excitement! 🌟🔥
The rare, intimate moments between Draven and Morgan were like gold, revealing their deep bond and how perfectly they complement each other. Morgan is a total powerhouse, and Draven is right there beside her, never overshadowing but always supporting.
I’m completely invested in these characters and their world—this one might be my favorite of the series so far! 📚💖 I’ve loved seeing the story grow and getting lost in every page.

Thank you so much to the author and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange of my honest review.
This book was a lot. A lot of information and a lot of traveling. I did still love this book. It moved the story forward very quickly, we found out a ton more of this world, and set up for the next one beautifully!
