cute, but I kinda felt bad for the troll; he should've been depicted as more evil/malicious instead of just lonely

Didn't care much for the story but the art is fantastic.

I neither disliked nor loved this story. It's a retelling of an old Norwegian tale, and it's short enough to read in one sitting. There's a subtle humour throughout. The art is fantastic!

Had no idea what I was getting into with this, but it ended up being a beautiful adaptation of an old Norwegian fairytale I had never heard of. Pretty quickly I picked up on the strange tone that reminded me of other old fairy tales I'd read before, which was when I realized this was an authentic story and not someone attempting to create a modern fairytale. It reminded me a lot of KC Green's Pinocchio adaptation, the way it seems to stay true to the language and story of the source material while breathing new life into it with gorgeous illustrations that are brimming with personality. I'd say it reminds me of Adventure Time, which it kind of does, but that feels reductive. I adore this book. Highly recommend. (8.5/10)

This story is so amazing and joyful, filled to the brim with daring and hilarious adventure.
The illustrations are simply gorgeous and exquisite.
There is a resourceful hero, an intelligent princess, a thundering and tricky troll, and a ridiculously cute octopus!
I am so happy I read this book, kudos to the author and translator.
Seriously, if this story crosses your path, please sit down and read it. Read it to your children, your siblings, your pet, your parents, your neighbor’s kids, just please read it and give it a chance because this is a beautiful work.

Can someone make this a film please? And an excellent adaptation at that? Please and thank you.

The text & dialogue read as a fairly traditional folk tale, but the illustrations are just so fantastically quirky that it makes the whole thing extra delightful.
