This was a great short read. I loved the characters, at times it tried to go from humorous to intense but failed in the serious bits for me and the editing was poor. Even though I liked the book it did not make me hungry to read the next in the series, I might come back to it at a later date.

Pretty good.
If you’re reading this book for a deeper meaning, it isn’t the one. If you want a book that really isn’t realistic, but is sweet and a definite alpha male, this would be the one for you.

Tina acts younger than her age of 28, very friendly, open, positive, guileless, etc. Her "friends" dance with club owner Nik was fun to read. There was a element of "danger" due to Nik's past and some sadness for hers.

Great read. Nik was definitely not what I expected, in a good way. Even with his less than scrupulous background I still loved him and he was a genuinely good person! Tina was sooo cute and funny! The things that come out of her and Nat's mouth! I loved them!!!

Wanted to like this book, and it had such a great start but I felt like it lost me towards the middle. If the book had ended with them getting together the first time I would have been okay with it, I felt like there was a lot of chapters there that were just meant to fill pages not add to the story line. Definitely would try another Belle Aurora book in the future, but was on the fence about this book.

While there are many problems with 'Friend-Zoned', the truth is that it's fun. It's very sweet while still pouring with sexual tension, and there are a lot of heart-warming relationships, not just the central one of romance, but especially the friendships which read both sincere as well as exciting through their shared experiences.
Tina owns a clothing shop next door to The White Rabbit, a successful nightclub belonging to Nik. She spends weeks observing Nik from afar and admiring his looks, and, ever the impulsive comedian, she decides to anonymously send him candy and a cute message. But this backfires as the stationary she used links directly back to her shop. In a panic and overwhelmed by embarrassment, Tina suggests friendship.
Now I mentioned some of the positives, so I'll dig into the negatives for a sec:
- The writing is poor. It means it's fast to read, there is nothing beyond the lines, it comes across as all the characters are much younger, and the feelings are not as nuanced as I'd expect them to be. Words and expressions are copied and pasted.
- Tina is that stereotype of a Cinderella character, the good, kind person to whom all the bad shit happens. Accidental pregnancy as a young adult, being left by her partner, child death, attack by a psychotic gang member, shooting, just everything that could be dramatic in her life will be dramatic.
- There's an air of possessiveness throughout coming from the men that makes me uncomfortable, akin to caveman talk like 'you are my woman' told repeatedly.
- This also means that marriage is seen as the be all end all, the ultimate goal in life, in a relationship, the ultimate way to make a woman yours. And after that, of course it's babies. Revolutionary.
- All the men are hot and all the women are hot. Not only that, but they are described with the same elements, even down to their clothes. I don't mean that they look identical, but the same aspects are highlighted: eyes, tops, bottoms, shoes, hair and for the women makeup.
- A lot of meat consumption, between chicken in sushi and turkey sandwiches, including statements like 'who doesn't like steak'. This is very disturbing knowing the state of the environment and animal care today, which still had a plethora of evidence in 2013.
- The main plot device in the evolution of the romance is miscommunication. I find this very off-putting and have little patience for it, it's the kind of thing that makes me want to shake the characters.
And surprisingly, given all that, I still found things to like:
- While Tina is way too pink and rosy, I found her lack of prediction very amusing, it made for a lot of funny scenes of her stomping all the other characters.
- Tina and Nat's friendship is absolutely wonderful, they have known each other for most of their lives, and that means they understand each other's reactions and concerns. It's the kind of found family that always sticks with you, and that is always by choice.
- I miss groups of friends in my life and that is also perhaps why I find this element so touching to read about. The dancing moments, the comforting hugs, getting ready together for a night out, silly flirtations, having the people you know will always run to you on speed dial.
- Nik and Tina's intimate scenes are very steamy, yet realistic. Other books have had strange proportions, odd dirty talk or a weird dynamic. Here they are very much focused on the physical, and in an exciting an engaging way.
Some good, some bad, but I had a good time and I've already continued the series.
