It's rare for me to be deeply engaged with nonfiction, and rarer for me to seek out more on the topic, so this graphic novel was a pleasant surprise. I only wish there he had written a companion volume to expand on contemporary economic theory. I'm wiser about economics in general (especially the disconnect between wall St and the economy in general) but I'm still drifting on a sea of jargon when I dip in to the Financial Times, etc. Still, this is a great primer, and I appreciate that the author wears his bias on his sleeve.

really informative read. i’ll need to pick this up again. it got a bit hard to follow towards the end because i had really little background info. maybe with some more time and experience i’ll pick this up again.

A very clear historical review of economics in fun quick comic style.

The author's view comes through quite strongly. He is cynical against the abstract views of economics which do not take into account a holistic societal benefit, including externalities of various sorts.

This is an excellent foundation on the principles and academics behind economics. When I grabbed it from the library I thought, this can either be schlock or could be a perfect primer. Clearly it is the later. The information is clear and concise, the illustrations and progression are accessible and the ideas presented are for educating the masses. In the beginning and at the end, the author states that he hopes that readers will learn from the text and do more research and education to have thoughtful discussions about where we need to look and actions we as a society need to take to correct some economic blunders. That is clear.

At times there are some political jibes and some leanings, but overall they are couched in history and in concrete examples of why policies failed or need to be learned from.

One interesting point, this book is not written for a high school student. I think you get more out of it if you have had some relevant work and banking experience. This isn't going to replace a text book teaching someone about micro or macro economics, instead the book will help clarify how you experience the economy in the real world.

An explanation in comics of how our economy came to be, and how it works and stuff. Was pretty good - I learnt a lot, and found it clear and accessible, but not overly-simplistic. There is a wealth of further reading if you want more detail too, indicating that the text was well researched. The author definitely has some left-wing leanings, which tend to come out more as the book goes along. I happen to agree with his opinions, but wonder if the book might not have been better without them. I got this out of the library, but is a book I'd like for my shelves.
