Generally speaking, an okay romantic suspense with lots of paranormal sprinkled throughout. I wasn't a fan of the big info dump at the end or the insta love. Same with some of the various character voices from the narrator.

my library book is due and i just don't feel invested enough to try and read 50% in 2 days
i wasn't having a bad time, but everything felt very flat, like there was no tension in both plot and romance, and it almost seemed like this book takes place in a shared universe because there was so much talked about like it was just a known fact.
so overall, just not worth my time

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.*
Romantic Suspense is a subgenre I've been trying to explore more often as I enjoy both romances and mysteries... so it makes sense I'd like this too, right? Well, this book proved this to be mostly true. I wasn't expecting there to be more sci-fi/fantasy elements, but those did keep it interesting too.
This book has an interesting mystery that had me guessing. The romance is also done well without it overpowering everything else. It is a pretty quick read too, so even though I wasn't always hooked to it, I still was able and willing to read all the way through to see how things would turn out.
Will I read more of this series? I'm tempted, but probably not. This is a solid three star, that I'd recommend to others, but just didn't grip me enough to continue.

This book captured me quickly. I'm fully invested in the story of the lost labs and the mystery and conspiracy behind Vortex. The obsession I immediately gained over Catalina and Slater was unexpected, but I love it. The mystery isn't over and I need more.

This book had potential. It was an interesting premise, and the main characters weren't insufferable. Although fairly predictable, the writing itself isn't bad. Two stars because I felt that the plot was quite meandering in the middle, picked up for a bit, but then fell back onto an obscene amount of exposition without any proper climax. The relationship also felt rushed and cliche, but that's easily overlooked if the rest of the book makes up for it. I'm sure some will like it, which may include the actual target demo, but it wasn't my jam.
