A bit of a forced beginning of the main trouble, but it pays off in the later half.

Giving this a lower rating than I gave the others just because Mildred's stupidity was cringe-worthy.

Another enjoyable adventure with the awesome Worst Witch. At first I was really annoyed with Ethel's meanness this book.the ending fixed that, I'm glad she finally got her comeuppance. Beautifully illustrated as always.

I liked how animals were heavily involved in the narrative, and I appreciated that we got to see another side of Mildred, one where she’s good at pottery and animal magic, and where she’s revered by first years. I did still find it to be a bit samey in comparison with the other books.
Moderate: Ableism and Animal cruelty
Minor: Confinement

This is the sixth book! I meant to read the second book. Duh. But this was fabulous! Ethel Hallow is one of my favourite literary characters, and I was thrilled that she and Mildred were co-starring the sixth book. Though it was disappointing that, in the end, Ethel's character was reduced to "someone who feels like being a jerk 90% of the time" it was a promising start to some real character development. Six books in and they're only in third form, hurray! More, more, more!

To be fair the books are a little bit repetitive, in that Mildred tries, Bully Ethel messes things up, Mildred gets in to trouble then by a stroke of luck Mildred is the hero of the day. But you still can’t help love the books! 4.5/5
