Weird and hot? Great words. Stalked woman and haunted man become more than neighbors. Tinkering.

Wow. That was dark. And unexpected. But beautiful in the way it illustrates love and partnership.

Beginning of a new series from new to me author Charlotte Stein. Beth survived an attack and has withdrawn in to her routine. Work, home, and not much else. When her dog goes missing she's forced to interact with her neighbor who is more of an introvert than she is. Noah is not ready to open his door let alone his life to anyone after what he has gone through but Beth is able to work her way under his skin. Can these two overcome their pasts to potentially find a future? A wonderful quick story about two broken people finding a future. Fun read!

I love Charlotte's twisty, tortured characters in a very compulsive way. When I read her stories, I feel like they would make the most intense independent films, the kind that make you give your significant other awkward glances for a couple of weeks afterward. When most people review a romance/erotica novel and say the hero is "intense" they usually mean stalkery or that he stares a lot. This guy, however, is truly intense. Tense too. The sexiness creeps up on you only after you've been a little afraid of him. Then you feel the overwhelming sense of gentleness, like he lulled you to sleep despite his hard edges and now you just want to snuggle. It's pretty fascinating.
I have to say though, Intrusion is definitely inspired by Silence of the Lambs (it's referenced several times) as well as Red Dragon, and the TV show Hannibal (not the movie). And for me, that was a bit trigger-y. I'm glad I was unnerved, but I wish I had known to expect it.
Also, I need to tell you how ill-fitting the cover is for the content.

This one was just…a lot for me personally. I’m a CS fan for life. This just wasn’t my favorite. Still very good though.

I actually have a lot of thoughts about the way stein writes her characters, like they are some of the oddest people and yet the partners always feel well matched. This one is erotic as you would expect but what’s gonna stick with me is the voice of her two MCs and how she was able to write them in such a poignant way despite the acknowledgment of some pretty significant trauma.

I really, really liked the first half of this book. It had this quiet, eerie, dreamlike vibe to it. Unfortunately it didn't maintain that the whole time and kind of threw me for a loop in the second half. But the first half was unique and cool.
