Another solid addition to the Will Trent series. The suspense builds over the course of the story and the ending is satisfying. I enjoy the character development in this series which always causes me to give an extra star to my rating. Highly recommended for fans of this series.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital advance review copy.

I'm always going to take a star away because I dont like will with Sarah!! I dont like Sarah at all I wa so excited when she got kidnapped! I was like yay! This is the end of her! But nah! I was wrong! She came back 😭😭😭😭

And I noticed I read the books out of order but ehh! It's all good! Lol i read the silent wife and I absolutely hated Sarah! And in this book! I can see why I hated her so much! And I hate Amanda lol you know! I dont like any of these characters but Trent and faith! Why can't Karin just have these 2 in books! Why she gotta had all these other people making the book so hard to READ 😭😭

other than that the plot was really good!! I couldn't wait until Trent got to the end and ended Dash! It was a long time coming! I wish he could have before all those kids and women and the people had to die tho! But reading this book was like watching a movie play out in my head! Really good novel!

The uncanny ability Ms Slaughter has to
murder all of her characters
is the reason I have fking trust issues. This book is a prime example of why you can never get attached in the Slaughter-verse — she will wreck your heart.

I'm not normally a fan of thrillers/crime novels that centre around
biological warfare/environmental disasters ‹/spoiler> but I loved how involved Slaughter made Sara in this novel instead of just a rival to Angie. We really got to see Sara back in her element as a doctor and it was heartbreaking how she tried her best to save her patients in this one. I will say that I loved the detail Slaughter put into crafting the narrative. Readers of all levels can follow along without feeling as if we need to pull out a medical textbook or Google. I also enjoyed the POV of the same timeframe on the date from the three main characters - Will, Sara and Faith.

Slaughter also toes a fine line between the thriller/crime aspect with the romance between Will and Sara. I personally think she handled this well, to the point I wish we could get a novella of JUST Will and Sard's lives as they navigate their relationship. It's not too overpowering or distracting but really enhanced the characters motivations as they go deeper into the narrative. I'm such a sucker for Will. He is such a wounded soul and I want to cradle him and keep him safe from all the bad people and events Slaughter keeps throwing at him.

I really enjoyed this one. I appreciate that this series likes to pull focus on different characters in each book and I liked that this one focused on Sarah. The
cult/branch davidians vibe
was also a fun twist.
