The trilogy is such an immersive fantasy that is so beautifully written with many endearing characters and a vast world. I’m in denial for some parts but I think the ending was overall satisfying.

This turned out to be only a somewhat satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. [b:the Summer Tree|104086|The Summer Tree (The Fionavar Tapestry, #1)|Guy Gavriel Kay|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171506609s/104086.jpg|3238632] was such a great beginning, but the other two books didn't really live up to the potential of that book. Kay did a great jog illustrating how self-sacrifice is necessary, often, for the greater good, and I liked that he wasn't afraid to kill off a major character for the good of the story and it's themes, but I think he tried to do a bit too much. There were so many story lines going on and he had to fully resolve EVERY SINGLE ONE. The resolution went on forever--maybe 50 pages after I felt like the book should have been over. Up until the drawn-out conclusion, though, I did enjoy the book although not as much as I'd hoped to.

A rather disappointing conclusion to a series I had enjoyed so far. Everything tied up far too neatly at the end, plus the quality of the writing was not up Kay's usual quality - this book was quite over-written.

Honestly, this book was super anticlimactic and this series has NOT aged very well. It was really good at putting me to sleep though.

Read this trilogy several times but still love it. 2nd only to Lord of the Rings in my favourite list

This book got so many great reviews, but the whole series didn't really drawn me in. I was struggling to finish, and kept reading other books in between.

The Darkest Road concludes the Fionavar trilogy in a style similar to so many other fantasy trilogies -- the war finally happens, the good guys finally face their challenges, there are casualties on both sides, but ultimately things are resolved.
Even with the somewhat predictable course of events in this book, Kay does a good job of wrapping up lose ends, continuing to weave a world filled with magic and complexity, and illuminating the lives of the original five sent to Fionavar.
Overall the Fionavar series was an okay read -- not close to my favourite work by Kay, but well written and interesting.
