I received this book from Flatiron Books through a Goodreads Giveaway.
More than anything else I found this book to be incredibly boring. I can typically finish a book in 1-3 days and this one took me 3 weeks because I kept putting it down again. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never really did. The ending was unsatisfying and even from a science fiction perspective, did not make sense. The characters were childish and annoying. I kept forgetting that Quinn was supposed to be a senior in college because she is written like a 13 year old. I found the multiple perspectives and different media to be distracting and unnecessary. This book read like nonfiction, but of course it was all made up.
This was simply not at all what I expected and I had to force myself to finish it. Not for me, sorry!

This one was not as good as her previous "Oona Out of Order" which I loved. That one established right away that there was supernatural and unexplainable things going on. Acts of Violet was too ambivalent. Was it magic tricks, astral planes, government cover up or fraud? Violet is made out to be this incredibly narcissistic person with little redeeming qualities and poor Sasha was the good girl. I would argue that Sasha was a pain too. She kept things from her family to "protect" them. I was glad that her husband was always honest and up front with her and told her when Violet pulled some of her shenanigans. I did enjoy the way the story was told, through first person chapters by Sasha, podcasts, e-mails and texts. When Sasha was told at the end that she was a martyr but complained about it I thought, yup that pretty much sums her up. The ending was okay.

all build-up with a lackluster conclusion. I was so disappointed. Oona was a fantastic book but this one completely missed what it was aiming for.
