Honestly this is great choice to all the readers that need a little spicy romance in between 500 page books.
It’s short, fun, spicy and to the point.
I have faith that if the author wanted to write a longer book it would be fantastic.
Again I need to emphasize that this a small book. Great for short road trip or afternoon one shot/stand alone. This book, if the author chose, could’ve been made waaay longer that what it is. There was a lot of room to expand in between events but because of its length it was kept to the point. You know how romance books like to fill in pages with slow burn/uncertainty? You won’t find that here.
The cover art is beautiful it was a great in-between fantasy romance.

“But I am a monster, Elvie. You don’t belong here, but I am too selfish to let you go. I’ll kill anyone who tries to take you from me.”
The Good
Elvie is the daughter of the king of the light elves and is eager and curious. I liked that she was into the fun and wild. Arkain is a dark king fueled by a desperate desire to stop history repeating and save his people. To do this he must marry Elvie by whatever means necessary to guarantee her people fight against the elves with his. I liked that they had disagreements but ultimately were able to find common ground with each other. Even with the short length their relationship was built well and I felt their love for each other.
I immediately liked the writing style/voice. It really went well with the elven fantasy setting and I liked the way the author quickly incorporated world-building information but it didn't feel heavy handed. The plot itself wasn't at all convoluted and though predictable at times it was still enjoyable.
The Bad
There was nothing explicitly wrong with this book it was just missing a specific 'umph' factor for me to give it a five. It's predictability and short length prevented it from being so. Both villains were very obvious in their antagonistic roles and the orc war plot felt brushed over at the end.
The Rating
I give this book a4/5

Once they started having sex, the plot sort of took a back seat or just felt rushed!

This book started off good but the writing felt a bit rushed at the end

I was looking for a palette cleanser book and this worked perfectly for that purpose. It's a short and simple read. The plot is there and there is the story of a betrayal that is unfolded, but I don't feel like we got much depth or motive, especially from the betrayer.
If you are looking for a book where they go at it repeatedly though, this is a great choice. There's a point in the story where a damn just breaks and suddenly they're finding the time and space for sex in pretty much all the time.

Hits the spot
I’ve been in a reading slump for a little over a week now and this is the first book to really hit that sweet spot. I love that Arkain and Elvie are reasonable. Elivie doesn’t allow some underhanded mutterings or negativity sit for long. She is honest with her emotions and her words and has no problem addressing things head on. This is one of the rare instances where I could’ve had more. The world building is amazing but I want another book with Arkain and Elvie! Their love story is sweet and SUPER spicy. This will be a book I revisit and a couple that sticks with me for good. Again, so good!

The plot similarities at first glance; shadow/dark king with sunlight princess, oh she's so quirky and likes plants, douche advisor, quirky female lead who is alchemist/healer AND MORE???
I have been following the creation of this book for awhile on TikTok and I was actually really excited to read this because the advertisements and teasers have gotten me genuinely hooked but maybe it wasn't intentional.
Maybe she just subconsciously wrote a similar plot line, characters, spicy scenes, and other aspects to Captured Sunlight but I just can't let this go without notice.
Do Better.
