Nice one, lots of twist and turns. The romance match is a bit stupid but not too annoying. Also - take your fucking pills when you need them, science is awesome, stop being a whiny bitch.

this started out interesting and i was really hooked at first but it quickly became very repetitive and annoying. the main character was particularly irritating but honestly, none of the characters were very likeable. the twist was boring and silly and the random romance had me rolling my eyes. this book tried to be too much and ultimately fell short in every way. i didn't totally hate it but i was pretty disappointed that it went so downhill.

Good page turner. Didn't quite figure it out myself, so bonus points for that. Extra extra bonus points for 90's beeper references.

I'd love to say that my bonkers schedule between work, theatre, and other life events is what kept me from completing this book for over a month. It certainly contributed some. But when given the moments to unwind in my free time, I found myself choosing anything else.
I'm a fan of Gardner's past works, but I was admittedly hesitant with such an early work into her catalogue. Turns out my hesitations were justly met, unfortunately.
This book is far too bloated for its own good. I felt like I was being dragged kicking and screaming through at least 100, if not 150 pages that could have been culled down to make room for a more streamlined and enjoyable reading experience. The characters feel antiquated even for 1999, and I found each twist rather predictable or headscratchingly incomprehensible. You can see the glimmers of the writer Gardner will become in this work, and I'm glad for that. But this outing is a big swing and a miss for me.

What a great book. It kept me intrigued throughout with a plot twist. Highly recommend!!

Exactly my kind of book! A whole bunch of twists and for once some I couldn't actually predict until late into the story but where the hints were there the whole time. That's exactly the kind of twists I want. Not predictable but still making sense when they're revealed. Lost one star because I really don't understand why authors feel the need to force romance and sex into these kinds of books, but the rest was enjoyable enough that I could look past it this time.

Lisa Gardner was an author I read before my review phase and before my Goodreads phase as well.
But I remember her books to be full of intrigue and suspense with bits of romance in the mix.
Maybe I need to revisit one of her books and do a full review!
