If you enjoyed the writing of Cormac McCarthy or Cloud Atlas, you will enjoy this book. It starts slowly, but keep going. There are oompah loompas.

I listened to it as a audiobook, seems well written and the narrative was good. Though the story didn't captivate me and I feel rather unfocused listening to it. Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace for it, maybe I should pick it up in a book format someday or it's just wasn't the book for me. The blurb did sound very intriguing though.

It's a very interesting story, but I almost fell asleep listening to it because it is not engaging and it takes quite a while to make a point. I liked it, quite a lot, but I don’t think I'll ever reread it.

Honestly I felt there was personality missing in the writing except for when we got to John’s point of view. Maybe I’m used to more entertaining writing but it took me a long time to read this simply because it felt more like a reading assignment than a book.
