A book that had five star potential at times. Right before the halfway point, I was engaged. That last half lost its excitement on me though.

This was a fast paced psychological / sci-fi/ dystopian thriller. The plot followed the usual sci-fi tropes - an invention supposed to help mankind, which turns into something sinister by a greedy corporation.
It was bloody, gory and violent. But the writing was excellent and the book was short, i enjoyed reading this. Well done for a debut novel!

I feel like I've just got off a roller coaster after reading this book. There was so much action, tension and drama!
This book reminded me of the Black Mirror episodes and definitely had a Sci fi futuristic feel to it as well as being a gripping thriller.

I loved the premise for this story. Thea is an insomniac and it is destroying her life so out of desperation she signs up to a sleep programme. She joins the programme which is situated on a remote island and she starts to get more sleep. But why can't she leave the centre and have her belongings back? Why is there no phone signal? What happens when Thea falls asleep? What are the metal probes on her head really doing? Is someone trying to control her?

This was such a fast paced exciting story. The reader could sense an impending sense of doom right from the start but there were so many twists it was impossible to predict! The writing is complex and so well written. I could definitely see it being made into a great film.

I loved the characters in the story. Thea who is determined, strong willed and striving to survive, despite her total lack of sleep. Vivian (Thea's mum) who is a radical pentioner with a great sense of humour and Moses, the clever scientist with his world changing theories that never quite worked out.

I would highly recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers with a bit of a Sci fi, horror and dystopian fiction thrown in! This was a very unique book and I can't wait to read more books by Louise Mumford!

Beginning at the scene of a car crash we are thrown straight in to the consequences of insomnia, and this is the catalyst for Thea to take it seriously and get help.

Then just like those mind reading Facebook ads, a new clinical sleep trial promising a cure appears like magic on her phone. This is where the book dons a spacesuit and takes a leap into sci-fi territory. Think mash up of The Island and The Matrix but still communicating with NASA and keeping the thriller aspects.

The characters of Thea, her mother and their relationship was enough to keep me invested as the plot spun on its head. The pacing did dip in places but not enough for me to nod off (see what I did there ha ha).

I’m probably making no sense at all and I’m no expert on sci-fi, apart from the odd read it’s a genre I rarely pick up. What I will say is that if you enjoy Blake Crouch then Louise is definitely floating in the same atmosphere.

An easy and enjoyable read that was enough out of the box to keep the suspense building. An intriguing premise with strong main characters. Enough twists and turns to shock. Would love to read more from this author.

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me! The first half of the book was brilliant, with eerie questions and secrets galore. The narrator of the audiobook is incredible and kept me engaged. However, after around 50% the book became chaotic and the storyline went wild. There was a lot of death and uncertainty - it felt rushed, with none of the clever and complex plot development from the first half. Such a shame, as the first half/the narrator was 5 star!

So…where to start! This book started off so well, and then, well, it just turned ridiculous!

Thea, the main character, is an insomniac who struggles to get a couple of hours sleep a night. After she causes a car accident due to lack of sleep she decides to take part in a sleep trial. The trail will last 3 months and take place on a remote island. Everything though is not as it seems.

Once on the island events start to take a drastic turn for the worse (shocking I know) and Thea will have to do everything she can to escape.

The book was action packed but all I could think of is that this a sounds like a terrible B movie, that doesn’t fully make sense, with terrible over the top villains that are more funny than scary. The book at such potential but sadly fell flat for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for a copy of the book in return for an honest review

As a person who suffers with insomnia, this book spoke to me!
The main character Thea was likeable and I totally understood the feelings of delirium when she hadn't slept!
I was so intrigued by the premise of the sleep trial and loved the mystery surrounding the clinic and the patients. It was a great thriller, and I enjoyed it.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic, keeping me engaged most of the time and eager to find out the next events. I did lose track of some of the characters a few points though.

Wow, what a book. Thankfully I’m not easily scared or put off my sleep but heavens above that was a thriller!

I did throughly enjoy the book and I feel all the twists and turns that Louise threw in. It was superbly written. The suspense and tension was there and didn’t let off until the end.

Definitely thrilling, gripping book that will keep you in suspense until the end.

Thanks Anne for arranging the tour and to @louise_mumford & @HQStories for allowing me a copy of this book!

Thea MacKenzie suffers from insomnia, she comes across an ad for a sleep trial that promises to change her life - the ad just pops up on her phone and she decides to enroll, take the plunge - she gets approved and what follows after that is a roller coaster ride - this book was fast paced, a bit confusing in some places but overall comes together towards the end.
