Did not finish.
Nothing like I was expecting it to be. Didn't feel like it was the William I've been reading about for years. This is usually what happens when a story is anticipated for so long so I'm not shocked.

The Darkest King had good moments. I liked Sunny and the ideas behind unicorn shifters. I imagine that Evelina and Axel have a story in the works, and that we'll see Sable again. There were also some nice fan-service moments in the epilogue. But I wanted more emphasis on story; there was a lot of action and information dumped in the final chapter that I would have liked earlier on/spread throughout the book. I also don't remember the stories (and I could be wrong) being this violent. The torture was too much for me. Lastly, kind of a spoiler:

I never really liked William so i guess its no surprise that i didn't really like this book. Surprisingly, i liked him better in this book than previously (perhaps because we got some backstory?) but he is still far from my favorite (Strider/Kaia and Cameo/Lazarus are my faves). I was more interested in the goings on with Hades and Axel and the war and found myself skimming much of the romance. On the other hand i've loved the William quotes on the beginning of each chapter. I guess this is just a miss for me.

The amount of errors in this book is astounding. I have never read a book with this many. A whole paragraph repeated and typos all over the place. This book feels rushed and forced which is evident in the inattention to quality.
I don’t even remember the book. It was entirely forgettable.

Sadly, just another so-so romance story with stereotype characters, full of immature banter, insta lust/love, and chemistry and bonding we must pretending to believe and swallow. The true story about Willy and Axel is the main

I read the novella Darkest Assassin before reading this because that's the order that is suggested on Gina's website. In said novella (which I absolutely loved) we get a sneak peek at William and Sunny.
BASED on that small tidbit I had already decided I was going to HATE Sunny and was really reluctant about reading William's story. I thought she was annoying af and had no interest in leaning more about her. Add in the reviews saying that William deserved better and I was convinced that Gina had smoked payote and ruined a much anticipated story.
I am happy to report that I was wrong. I actually really really love Sunny. She has a duel personality so there will be moments where I could totes relate and others where I was like WOW she is just as messed up as William. But in a good way.
I think they fit good together. I appreciated how much emphasis on family this story had. Especially seeing William be so open and raw after reading Gillian's book. I got nervous towards the end because I feel like Gina could END the series with this story. BUT I know that there is a Novella coming out in December and so many other characters who need their stories told. So hopefully I was just a little paranoid with how some circumstances where wrapped up.

Well... this was definitely different. Very different. I have read a few of Showalter’s books so I was not too surprised. So Sunny was cool at first, then she kinda had an array of personalities. It was alright but I was not too impressed. She gave in a little easily when she knew nothing about her captor except she wanted him. I mean, your species was slaughtered but lets not worry about it so you can rail William? Ok. Loved her “punishments”.... at first. And thought they were funny. Then they just got childish.
William was ok. I am not into domination so the scenes were just a little much when I was actually interested in plot. He a typical “hard ass” then melted when around her. When in reality he was a softy all the time, telling Hades he loved him? Not really what I expected from a prince of darkness. Overall he was pretty cool. Didn’t take shit.
The plot was pretty well developed but had many holes. Nothing happened suddenly or without build! I honestly really loved how the immortals were all humanized! They all had weaknesses, love interests and ideas. They werent just all knowing and all powerful all the time. They had risks and fears.
I felt bad Sable just.... vanished. Sunny became a Queen of Hell but she was not too worried while shacking up with the Prince.
