Good plot, but would be better if she'd avoided antisemitism and Xenophobia ... Early on she is describing one character has having fallen into the hands of the Jews which is with moneylenders (to be fair, for a long time the only jobs Jews were allowed, but still rings nasty in the way the characters use it) and another the Greeks - masters of crooked gaming hells. It was distasteful indeed. The rest of the story is great - the bad guy is just another Englishman - but reading with 21st century eyes is disconcerting.

Early Heyer Georgian romance with an overlay of detective novel and lots of good hearted silliness. Exactly the thing to read on a cold winter's night.

Pretty rare for me to laugh aloud when reading a book, but the chuckles were aflying at the Horne household last night... The interactions between Sarah and Tristram were priceless!
