I'm not usually one for thriller novels but I thought I would widen my horizons with this fantastic page turner. I've been pretty fascinated by North Korea for a while and this novel is a great insight into both the bureaucracy and the ordinary (or not so ordinary) lives of North Korean citizens.

The novel would have been just as good even without the story arc of Jenna attempting to find her sister who we find out was kidnapped from the North Korean authorities. Without that arc however, there would be no real reason for Cho's defection. I stayed up all night trying to finish this because I was desperate to know of he fate that awaited our heroes. A fantastic read.

What. A. Read. This has earned its place on my favourite shelf.

It’s refreshing, well-written and a proper unpredictable thriller. I’m fascinated (not in the positive sense) about North Korea and how it just simply detaches itself from the rest of the world and this story satisfies my curiosity, and then some.

Even though this is fiction, it has a real non-fiction vibe to it.

It’s my favourite fiction read thus far of 2018, and it’s a must-read. Hoping for a Part 2 and perhaps even a film… ?
