Me declaro intrigada.

Noq recommended me this book.
The main character, Shion is supposed to be a genius but he seems like an airhead.
His relationship with Nezume reminded me of Nai and Gareki's.
Maybe it's because of the hair.

I'm hella tired this week and as expected this book wasn't all that heavy. Yes, it's a dystopia, I've grown to expect the dysfunctional society and all that. Conspiracy theory? Hmm, let's see what you're gonna do this time. Let's see how you torture your citizens this time. *rub hands in glee*

I liked it, but the next one has to convince me to go on, because dystopian manga just aren't really my thing. Shounen-ai is my thing. And subtle gay-ness is really cute (and more realistic), which I love. So this could still be fantastic. The art style's great so I see the potential! :)

Second read (May 10, 2022):

4 stars.

I've been wanting to get back into this series and continue forward for a while, so I'm happy that I've finally reread it. I think I was able to get into the story easier, since I had already knew what I was getting into. I still really like Shion and Rat. I'm curious to see how their relationship develops. I'm also curious if Shion's friend or mom are going to try and contact him and go against the city as well. I would like to know more about how this city came to be and what the West Block is like. There are so many unknowns about everything and I'm excited to see where the story goes.

First read (May 4-6, 2021):

4 stars.

Oooh, this is really interesting! This laid a lot of the groundwork for what to expect in the latter volumes and I'm really excited to continue. I like Shion and Rat's relationship and how they seem to understand each other, even in their first encounter where they were strangers. I like that Shion has never bought into the idea that city is flawless. I'm nervous for his mom and best friend and how the government might hurt them to draw out Shion. I'm curious to understand more about the deaths caused by those bees. I feel like maybe the government planted them into the citizens and uses them to monitor and make sure citizens stay loyal to the city and kills anyone who starts questioning the society. There's so much that we don't know and I'm really looking forward to continuing and seeing how fleshed out the world is.

This is hard to rate. I love the anime, and it's decidedly better than the manga for now. But I love Shion and Nezumi. And I don't mind reading what I already watched two or three times already...

I'm really enjoying this so far. A world which seems Utopian is hiding its dark workings - in other words, Dystopia! Great characters and interactions.

This is actually one of my favourite animes so finally reading the manga is a lot of fun! These characters and the stories do mean a lot to me, it sparked my interest in dystopian and utopia fiction and questioning the lines between the two, as well as how much I love the use of governments using biological weapons as a form of controlling the population!

Rat and Shion are both great characters, they are basically boyfriends from page one and everyone else thinks so too. I feel like Shion's naivety is seen as a flaw by Rat when it's actually his compassion for others that keeps him alive, while Rat has learnt to survive by rejecting the compassionate side for him, something Shion brings out in him. Their dynamic is one of my favourites and I cannot wait to get further into this series!
