this was a little to slow of a burn for me? a whole lotta nothing for about 360 pages. i indeed figured out the book at about 60% in. i hate grant. i wish we saw some sort of justice. i thought becca was gonna come out of left field and reveal some major plot twist. it'd probably be a nice read if you're in the mood for a popcorn thriller. long live june and wyatt

This book had me hooked! I wanted to know exactly what happened the night of Phoebe Dean’s death. I loved and hated all of the characters - in that the author perfectly created characters that were human, flawed and meant to be hated in the bad things they did and also felt sympathy for (well all except Grant). There was a twist, but it wasn’t as super twisty as some of the reviews on the book made it seem. I definitely recommend this to read if you love a mystery and also exploring humans dealing with grief, secrets and being trapped in the shadow of tragedy.

When I say nothing happened into the 90% mark.. I genuinely mean NOTHING happened. Four different perspectives with each chapter on each perspective ending with “no one can find out.” I understand the “big reveal” isn’t until the end but there was nothing else to keep your attention until that point. Two of the perspectives were made out to be crazy so those chapters were extra hard to get through. The plot and story were there.. but it just fell flat. I can usually finish my ARC’s in 2-3 days and I had to force myself to finish this in 4. Very unfortunate because I know this is Tate’s debut novel.. but it just wasn’t for me. There are a bunch of 5 stars so maybe it’ll better suit you.
