4.5 This BRAVE young woman opened my eyes, expanded my view and made me even more aware of my privileged life. I’m so thankful she tells her story giving a voice to so many in North Korea while boldly and bravely shedding light on human trafficking. I love the subtle message of the power of reading and education. Fantastic story

Even though I felt completely destroyed while reading everything you had to go through in order to achieve your freedom, I'm so beyond grateful I got to read it. Yeonmi, you are a true hero, and I deeply admire you for it.

The story in this memoir is unbelievably striking yet very memorable. The book uncovers a very determined and courageous young woman, Yeonmi, whose intent was to flee her country, away from the totalitarian government that rules the North Korean regime. Her hope was about securing her future and her ultimate freedom. Yeonmi's journey has been so empowering that it has brought tears to my eyes. A very powerful book with a strong message.
