If you read this as a stand alone and don't think of the movie it's actually an entertaining quick read. I enjoyed playing Spot the Difference and I prefer the way this one ended with Elle not needing another romantic interest AND growing as a person. I feel like Elle felt more like a real flesh and blood person and not a character in this story as well.

You’re not gonna believe this, but I think the movie is a lot better. But the book is great too. It’s sort of a howls moving castle situation. They’re pretty different yet very good as separates.

All I can say is that I could not even be bothered to finish this. They made a fantastically funny movie out of a very boring and poorly written book.

Loved the movie, loved the musical, but unfortunately this just didn’t have the same charm or fun spirit that the adaptations have. It’s not bad per-se, but the whole time I was thinking that I’d rather be watching it than reading it
