A fun, fluffy romance novel with a twist of time travel.

I borrowed this from my local library in e-book format. Maggie a middle aged 40-something woman who is unhappy/bored with her life and husband and is having doubts about her decision back in her twenties when she turned down her ex partner Jude to marry her husband Dan.
She time travels back to the 90's to that fateful life changing day where she tries to make the right decision for her own happiness. From then she jumps between two alternate lives one with Dan and the other with Jude and we see how both lives are playing out and the consequences of her choices.
It was an interesting concept and I did enjoy the read. Being set in and around London and in the nineties which was when I grew up meant that the locations were familiar and relatable to myself. It is thought provoking, and made me think about "what if" moments of my life and second chances. However I felt that it wasn't explained how or why she was time travelling and how it stopped. There wasn't anything in this book that gave it a wow factor and I didn't like the the ending, felt a bit dull and flat.

Yes the time travelling/ sliding doors theme has been done before. Doesn’t always work but this book did. I loved it. If ever you wonder what would have happened if you had done something differently in your life, you would relate to this book. A must read.

I honestly can't decide if I love it or dislike it. The beginning was a bit slow, some bits were very predictable and cliché, but other parts were deeply touching and philosophical.
I think it's 75% love and 25% dislike. Would be 4 stars if it wasn't for the way too abrubpt ending.

It took me a good few days after putting this book down to decide how I felt about it.
The Other Us features a discontented wife in a marriage gone stale. She reflects on her life and the more passionate decisions she could have made in her love life and career - namely, by running away with her high school sweetheart and bad-boy Jude. When she wakes, she has travelled back in time to the day her husband proposes to her (and the day Jude asks her to run away with him.) She gets to make all of her decisions anew in two separate timelines, with interesting effects on her child (or lack thereof) and her best friend.
It is a fascinating book of self-discovery, which taught me to step out of my "the grass is always greener on the other side" mindset and taught me the importance of appreciating and nourishing what we have rather than resenting it. It seems silly, but this was a lesson that really stuck with me and I have already begun to apply to my personal relationships.
While this book does not have the most beautiful of prose or the most well-constructed of worldbuilding, and therefore from a literary standpoint sadly will not go down as a classic, this book has relatable and heartwarming character arcs and it kept me absorbed from the first page until the last.
Four stars from me!

It dragged on and on and I was about to give it a 2 stars because I really hated Jude, but the ending saved it. It was a good read eventhough I didn't like Maggie either, Dan was OK but his weak personality was irritating sometimes. In short, the selfish female in this story has to choose between a narcissist or a defeated man, if it was for me, I would choose to live by myself and accomplish my own goals instead of letting men decide my fate, but that's just me
