It's definitely more like a picture book. But it's still pretty funny!

A familiar folktale done with new, unique illustrations.
The Troll really really creeped me out and I couldn't really look at pictures he was in; however, that unease is precisely the feeling the bad guys are supposed to instill in you, otherwise no heroes would have issues with fear of their monsters. Right?

This is a different take on the Norwegian fairytale The Troll with No Heart. I am not familiar with the original, but this retelling was interesting. It is the story of a king with seven sons. He sends the oldest six off to find wives. On their return journey they are turned to stone by a troll. It is up to the seventh son to rescue them. He sets off, helping different animals along the way, to find the troll. Inside the troll's mountain he finds a captive princess who helps him. They must find the troll's heart in order to free themselves and the six brothers. It is a bit gruesome, but also funny. I can't decide if I liked the illustrations or if I found them distracting, but they do lend to the overall effect of the story.

I loved the story but the pictures were a little too creepy for me.

cute, but I kinda felt bad for the troll; he should've been depicted as more evil/malicious instead of just lonely

I neither disliked nor loved this story. It's a retelling of an old Norwegian tale, and it's short enough to read in one sitting. There's a subtle humour throughout. The art is fantastic!

Had no idea what I was getting into with this, but it ended up being a beautiful adaptation of an old Norwegian fairytale I had never heard of. Pretty quickly I picked up on the strange tone that reminded me of other old fairy tales I'd read before, which was when I realized this was an authentic story and not someone attempting to create a modern fairytale. It reminded me a lot of KC Green's Pinocchio adaptation, the way it seems to stay true to the language and story of the source material while breathing new life into it with gorgeous illustrations that are brimming with personality. I'd say it reminds me of Adventure Time, which it kind of does, but that feels reductive. I adore this book. Highly recommend. (8.5/10)
